Description Another dragon species design I'm helping with for 'ze webcomic I'm helping with (the Leaf dragon is another). There might eventually be a different version of this guy up...maybe. If I get ambitious.
So, I thought that the Leaf dragon had a lot of scales? Whooo-boy.

Lessons Learned:
1) Blue, while a muchly-enjoyed colour of mine, does not like me.
2) ....this really should have been done in a higher resolution.... those scales were a nightmare.

Thanks.
I don't like the wings either, and haven't for a long while. I was okay with them when I finished it, 'cuz I was all, "Eeee! I finished something!!"
Then the "Eeee" wore off and I went, "Mmm.... Needs work. Ick."
Things to learn from, at least.

Wow, freaking aweseom pic. For some reason I thought that it was traditional at first, you know like those freaking insane good traditional pictures that some people draw that are like.. perfectly realistic, you know? Erm... yeah..

Anyway, really awesoem job on this picture. I can't believe you used Photoshop to do it. Photoshop hates me and messes up all my shading colors >O. I mean, it always does.. and I don't wanna burn/dodge since then I can't fix it if I mess up (I like to put my shading on a separate layer, you see?). This is a really schweet picutre, I just love all the details and the colors you used are perfect looking . That dragon would blend in perfectly in a forest. The colors are dimmed down enough that it would work, you know?

I love the dragon itself... its drawn so well and its sooo 3-D looking . The anatomy is perfect too

Yeah, I know what you mean with Photoshop... And while I used the dodge and burn tools on the scales, I put the actual shadows on a separate layer...always.
I was aiming for dimmer colours, 'cause yeah, how often do you see a bright blue and yellow dragon successfully sneaking up on something? They just don't make for good predator colours, y'know?
........ *pointedly avoids looking at own icon*

Thankee very much!

Well, hey its art you know? The picture dosen't HAVE to be perfectly realistic.
I mean, there's lots of art thats all bright and stuff. Bright colors make it more interesting, with dimmed down colors it would be a pretty dull picture if you ask me.

I absolutely love this! When I first viewed this I was like..."wait a minute, is that a 3D rendered pic?" It looks so amazing! Though I can bet the scales did take a long time, they make it turn out so much better in the end. And personally, I like the steel-blue with hint of yellow you used for coloring

Again, you amaze me! I can't do those details in a milion years! And the anatomy is great too! Did you made him with colored pencils and ink?

Luthrai In reply to SunMoonDragoness [2006-01-22 17:01:14 +0000 UTC]

Oh, silly me - I forgot to add what I used. I actually drew him in pencil, scanned him, and coloured him with Photoshop. The scales were all irritating because even the largest of them was only a dozen pixels across (including the pencil lines), and I was too silly to re-scan in a higher res. And as for the anatomy (cor, I must've been spacing badly when I submitted him if I forgot to add this) - Two words: Great Dane. ^_^ Well...Great Dane + Dragon, at least. While the Leaf's very squirrel/rodent-like, the Thunder's very dog-like. There will eventually be more of these dragon species up, and most have defineable characteristics taken from other animals.
And thanks!
