Description
Gasp! Luth'rai submitted something that isn't a dragon? That's not allowed, is it?Well, as a matter of fact, this is only about 1/3 of a PLAN picture. What do the other 2/3 contain, you may ask?
....well, water.... and my dragon. ^.-.^
I just wanted to show my progress on it so far, especially with Mr. Galeocerdo cuvier, here. Tiger sharks may eat nearly anything, but they are gorgeous sharks. I'm rather pleased with how this one's turning out- particularly due to my complete lack of references for the postitioning; plenty of tiger shark refs, but just none from this angle.
I switched my Plan's thesis to dragons my junior year. Up until that point, I was dead-set on doing something with sharks. Yay for life-long obsessions! In fact, I think I've been into sharks even longer than dragons... When I was 3, my parents kept losing me in an aquarium because I'd repeatedly wander off on my own. It didn't take them long to find me pressed against the shark tank.
^-^
So of course I had to work at least a cameo appearance by sharks into my Plan. Ta da. My bio professor was completely unsurprised, but amused. ...Dang, I think I'm becoming rather predictable for my teachers.
Besides, talking about sharks and shark attacks and how my dragons interact with them not only gives me several more pages, but also about 6 or 7 more references.
Once I've got the entire picture up, then I'll explain what, exactly, is going on, though you might be able to guess from the title.
Mostly vine charcoal- a bit of compressed charcoal for the eye and the edges of the first and second dorsal, pectoral and caudal fins.

Luthrai I am most impressed by the tiger strips. I must say not many people can pull them off. You did a pretty good job on them.
Nice work overall!!

Wonderful drawing. Great detail. The background may not be complete, but the shark alone is great.

Thank you very much. I've since finished the background- you can see the whole thing here if you'd like. Or you don't have to and I won't be offended. >^.-.^<

It's a tough angle to work from. I had a few basic tiger shark references, but the only reference for the angle was an ink drawing of a great white.
Yay sharks and thanks. >^.-.^<

AMaaazing! I love this angle, btw. I really look forward to the finished piece too ^^. Hehe, All my teachers know that I draw wolves most of the time, but lately I've been getting a little random and abstract x3. I see you're keeping up with the great work, go for it! ^^

Tiger sharks rock! W00t!
I was trying to keep the "sleek and shiny" in mind without giving any impression that it was soft. I think sometimes sharks kind of have that problem of appearing to be slightly soft, when they're really, really not. At all. Or that could just be me. As heck, I am of the opinion that sharks are cute and dolphins look like they want to eat you... or steal your soul. So I think I might be in a bit of a minority regarding anything shark-related.
Thankee! ^.-.^

Of course, I think sharks are cute, but I think crocodiles are cute too, so my opinion may be slightly biased.
I don't have much experience trying to draw sharks with proper shading, so I'm not sure how hard it is to get away from the softness, but you pulled it off well.

Thanks again, then.
And of course crocodiles are cute! I mean, look at those snouts! Adorable! Alligators... not as cute. They're too fat.
Yay for being biased sometimes.

Yeah, alligators fall a bit short, but they're still up there.
