Description Lookee! A background! I took the Thunder Dragon and gave him a nice background to romp on. Technically, Thunders don't live on the plains; they live in the badlands. I say that he took a wander b'cause he wanted to romp through grass. I also say that I didn't want to draw an entire page of dirt and rocks.
I said, "I want organic matter to draw, confound it!"
And the grassland went, "Oh, y'do, do you? Well. Have at thee!!"
It then promptly clubbed me over the head and laughed at me.
(....I think it cheated to win like that.)

Anyhow- Background. And many thanks to *slyeagle for helping out with telling me what looked like utter crap - and better yet, how to fix it. ^.-.^ I've been doing art on a nearly 24:7 schedule lately, and my artistic judgement is becoming slightly compromised, methinks.

I make funny noises?

Welllll....
"*urp*" kind of sprang to mind.... And it came up...err.... 3 times, I think. So I can feasibly use the plural form of "noise."

...y'gotta admit, it's a funny noise.
Well, you don't have to, really.
But I think it is.
....you're not offended that I think you make funny noises, sometimes, right? o_o <~(the *meep* face)

Heehee... "Meep." Now THERE'S a funny sound.

Au contraire, I make a lot of funny noises in real life. It's good to know that small aspect of moi has somehow squirmed its way into the Internet.

You know ...I'm really impressed by the little things in the drawing...You have each and every small peice of grass....and every scale on his/her body....and the feathering of the wings...is very impressive.....How long does this work take????????
Even down to the crystal blue eye....
So after reading some of the other comments..( silly me) you did this all with a tablet...Geez I have one...and I get so darn frustrated 'cause it doesn't do what I want it to do...(and I like to be in control...of the computer that is )
I'm thinking of throwing mine out the window of a car going really fast..

heheh, don't we all like to be in charge of out computers?
Hrum... time taken... definitely over 20hrs... likely more around 30 or 40... I dunno, really- long time. I recall shading the scales took forever.
A lot of the detail that's in there (like, 90-95% of it) is able to be there because my pencil and I love each other very much and work together pretty well. The tablet I just use for colour. If I took the penciling off, it'd look like utter crap. In a crap-bucket, in fact.
I've actually never wanted to defenestrate my tablet... Defenestrating my computer, on the other hand, is an entirely different story.
And thank you. ^_^

So it was actually drawn and colored by hend but the tablet assisted in copy and paste and coloring?
Well ain't technology grand???
Maybe you could give me some hints on using my tablet ......

Technology is, in fact, grand.
I can certainly try. My tablet and I got to be friends with each other after many hours of my hunching over it and alternatively yelling, "WHY CAN'T YOU WORK LIKE MY SKETCHBOOK?!?!?!" or "WHY CAN'T YOU WORK LIKE A MOUSE?!" at the stylus.
...okay, so I didn't yell - aloud, at least. ^.^

My jaw is currently taking up residence on the floor.
Awsome! just wow!
I love the widescreen touch with the bars, looks like a still from CG art, and the longer I look at it, the more it looks drawn, but on quick glance, it's definatley quality stuff. Another excellent piece of work, w00t dragons!

Really nice work, once again!

I live about an hour and a half away from the Alberta badlands and have a bunch of pictures of them. Feel free to use them for reference if you ever need any.

...I love you.
....in the completely platonic sense of the word, that is. ...platonic...I think that's the word I want. I'll just imagine you know what I mean, at least.
I pounce the references. Oh, the pouncing.
And thank you.

LOL, I love you too, in the same sense. (And that was the word you wanted.) I'm glad you like the photos! If you use them, lemme know, eh?

Ohh, that's not an "if" - that's a "when."
And when I do use them, I'll certainly let you know. ^-^

I just realized that I have a bunch more badlands photos that I hadn't posted anywhere. So, since you seemed to really like the other ones, I uploaded the rest. Here they are.

[link]

I hope you like them! I don't know if it would snow in the badlands you are thinking of. Ours are sorta strange - they are a desert randomly stuck in the middle of prime farmland, and it snows enough there in winter for one of the slopes to have been turned into a skihill.

If you'd like to see pics from the dinosaur museum in Drumheller (and I have a strange feeling you would), here's the link to those too: [link]

Luthrai In reply to Karnanyd [2006-06-24 07:36:44 +0000 UTC]

....I platonically love you even more.
I honestly don't have a clue as to whether it snows in the badlands or not. But I'm almost positive that I can find someplace where it is. ^ ^
And that strange feeling is so very totally correct. ...Do I come off as a dino-type-nut?
I end up using dinosaur skeletons for reference for dragons rather often. Especially for bone structure. So these are even more awesomeness in addition to all the badlands.
I hop up and down with excitement and a large grin of glee on my face (I really am pretty easy to please, after all).
Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!

Yay! I'm very glad that my photos can be of use to someone other than me. I originally took all those dinosaur photos thinking they would be great references for dragons, so whoo hooo for someone who will use them!

Luthrai In reply to Kezrek [2006-06-23 05:35:44 +0000 UTC]

....art trade? I assume this means an exchange of some sort. Of art, most likely.
Other than that.... I haven't a clue as to what that entails.
Tell me, and I'll likely think it's awesome. ^.-.^

Kezrek In reply to Luthrai [2006-06-23 15:52:49 +0000 UTC]

Not know what an art trade is?! Well, I didn't either. x3 It's where two artists agree to draw something of the others'. It's not as burdening as a request because you get something in return by the other artist, who will draw something of yours. And vice versa. OwO If you want to be real professional, you can mail your picture to the other artist in real. But that isn't necessary. ::stares intently some more:: O w O

Yus, evil trip... But I WILL find a way to get on here and complete the trade! The sooner the better, nay? What shall I draw for you? OwO

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Luthrai In reply to Kezrek [2006-06-25 01:17:55 +0000 UTC]

Ooh. This requires a decision, doesn't it? Hrmm. *hem haw, hem haw*
Ermmm..... Can y'draw me a dragon? Doing something spiffy-cool like flying? ('Cause you do it all pretty-like and such.) Or anything, really- y'seem t'me to be one of those cool people who get free rein and do something awesome with it.
What should I draw for you? (er, fair warning, I draw people like a rock draws a tree. Meaning I can't. But seeing as how no people live in my gallery, I'd doubt you'd ask for one. ^.-.^)
Don't rush yourself with it, as I tend to be on the slow side of things...

Kezrek In reply to Luthrai [2006-06-26 19:58:44 +0000 UTC]

That's all right, as I tend to be quite lazy. |D But I shall work on a spiffy dragon for you as best I can! Arrr!

Hmm... and you can draw me... >3 Stryd! Bwahahaha. He's in random places in my gallery somewhere. One hint to finding him are his three horns. o_. Because I can't open a new window in fear of this computer having a meltdown.

YAY!

Ooh, I know that feeling. I usually threaten my computer with being slathered in duck sauce and then promptly gnawed upon.
...it's never been impressed, as far as I can tell. Alas.
Yep, I managed to track down Stryd pictures. He will be drawn! w00t.

Something I forgot, but now remembered; when you made the background, do you use a tablet or the mouse?
Lol, I just want to find out if it's possible to make such an extraordinary background without a tablet (I don't have one..)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Luthrai In reply to CatocalaFraxini [2006-06-23 00:16:13 +0000 UTC]

After I scanned and stretched the background a bit ^ ^; (bad me for cheating)- I did all the colouring with a tablet, though I imagine it'd be feasible with a mouse - just more time consuming. I mean, I basically drew the grass all over again, only in colour, and in several parts, I just cut & pasted sections of grass, and crunched them down some with the transform tool so they'd work better as distant grass.
...a tablet would make it a lot easier to do, though, yeah...
