Lookee! A background! I took the Thunder Dragon and gave him a nice background to romp on. Technically, Thunders don't live on the plains; they live in the badlands. I say that he took a wander b'cause he wanted to romp through grass. I also say that I didn't want to draw an entire page of dirt and rocks.I said, "I want organic matter to draw, confound it!"
And the grassland went, "Oh, y'do, do you? Well. Have at thee!!"
It then promptly clubbed me over the head and laughed at me.
(....I think it cheated to win like that.)
Anyhow- Background. And many thanks to *slyeagle for helping out with telling me what looked like utter crap - and better yet, how to fix it. ^.-.^ I've been doing art on a nearly 24:7 schedule lately, and my artistic judgement is becoming slightly compromised, methinks.

Nope. About 90% of the grass is pencil, and it's just the stuff in the front that's pure digital. But yeah, this was before I learned how to make brushes in Photoshop. I remember it took a while.

The scales are originally done in pencil and scanned. The shading on them is simply the dodge and burn tool. I forget what settings I used for it here.

Yep. Scaling is 200% done by hand. ^.-.^
First pencil, then Photoshop. Actually, if you look at the original pencil version, the scaling's a bit flat. ...I take that back. It's a lot flat. Like the scales don't really wrap around the dragon very well in some places. This is why I am thankful for PS shading.

Normally I do work with 300dpi. This I kept at 150 because the dragon was originally done in it (stupid idea, that- those scales were a pain at 150). Oh, and because I needed to get it done for Connecticon. Heh. ^.-.^
