Heavy gold, reflective light, glossy eyes. Two sides, interpret them as you may.
I love the juxtaposition of darkness and light, as you cannot have one without the other. Together they create a beautiful drama, which pulls lovingly at textures and colours, drawing them into attention. And the metallic quality of the gold leaf flashes in the light in a different way, its luminosity present in low light. One of my favorite accents, its beauty can only be truly felt in person.
This piece was painted with oils on a masonite panel measuring 12"x16".
