Description
All modeling, unwrapping, and rendering was done in 3dsMax, created to supplement some modeling techniques I demonstrated on my Youtube channel for surface modeling a Gyroid shape. Subsurface Scattering volume materials were used to recreate realistic 3d printed rendered objects. Corona engine in 3dsMax used for the final render.Purchase this Gyroid Master Collection on my Gumroad store: Β gum.co/zSSUJ

Thank you.Β The penΒ may appear to be floating, but in the scene, it is in contact with the book beneath the object and the surfaces are touching.Β I think the light through the clear plastic creates a caustic effect and subtracts any contact shadows, creating the illusion of the pen floating above the surface.

Thank you! Β Of course, looking at it after the fact, I see a lot of problems I should have addressed before the final render, but it's finished now so I'll have to be more attentive on the next project. Β I truly appreciate the kind wordsΒ and support, thank you once again.

Fantastic. Looks like a photo. Except I noticed that the pen looks like it is floating a little above the paper. The pencil looks correct. The shiny coins are alright. After all, one can clean silver coins, especially if one is a collector.

Thanks. Β Yes, I too noticed the "floaty" appearance of the pen. Β However, in the scene it is actually flush on the book. Β If you have a look at the wireframe breakdown on my Artstation page, you'll see all the objects on the book are flat on the surface.

So the only thing I can think of is that the refractive caustics are drowning out the AO contact shadowing, causing it to look floaty.

John,
Excellent piece of work!
(Only immediately-evident give-away was the highly-reflective silver coinage.)

...I legit spent 3-5minutes being confused about the combination of description + art because I was CONVINCED it's a photograph. Epic work man!

Awesome work - had to look very closely to see that this isn't a photo of an actual collection of 3D prints!
