How hard is mezzotint? I got the impression that it's pretty hard-going by my tutors at uni stopping me from attempting it for a project =/

It actually isn't that bad in my opinion. For this print I bought a plate that already had the messotint surface, so it was no big deal at all.
I have tried hand-making my messotint plates, and the biggest issue is that it is time consuming. You might want to experiment with small plates first to get the idea of how much preparation you need for it to work properly. Oh, and wiping is also a big part, it's easy to overwipe I think. But personally I love the effect that you can get from messotint plates, so if you are interested, and if you have the tools to make a messotint plate, I'd say try it out.

A tattoo, hm, haven't thought of this fish in that medium. Interesting. I have been drawing fishes in gasmasks in several mediums though. I find it a fun idea.

Haha, yes, pollution would definately be a reason for fish to wear gasmasks. It would be cool if fish evolved so that they learned to do that.
