Description
There's gonna be a lot of explanation for this one, so bear with. Firstly, this is my first species that I have created and shared, so that's cool! Now, let's get into the inspirations behind it's design. The main idea originally came from when I was watching one of Subjectively's fakemon videos, where they made a pseudo legendary vaguely based on axolotls and dogs. The secondary stage gave me many ideas, which can be seen in the design itself and the pose.
Then, we have Toothless from HTTYD. His head shape and paw structure fit in with the idea I had in mind, plus I just wanted the excuse to have Toothless's face to the side while I work lol.
Going on from Toothless, we have the creature that Toothless may have been based on, the giant salamander. I'm pretty sure his design is specifically based on the adolescent stage of them, looking very similar to axolotls, but I got up a ref of an adult one since I couldn't find anything else.
Finally, Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. He has the cute yet troublemaking face on him, which is where I wanted to go with my creature.
Now, onto the creature itself. For the name, this was the first 'word' that came to mind. Idk why but there's the name, pronounced Row-tier.
For their patterns, I wanted to lean into the axolotl base idea, and chose the wild type axolotl pattern to fit in with the idea I have in mind for the creature.
If this was real, it would probably be found in swamps, and would be able to both swim and walk on land. It would spend most time in water, with it's primary food being fish and insects. Specifically for fish, they would take them out of water and throw them around for fun until it was dead, then eat it. In their eyes, they would see it as giving the fish a fun time before it dies, but unintentionally they give the opposite affect.
While most live in swamps, others may wander away from their home and come across new things, which they will not be afraid to get close to and inspect. I imagine their eyes would go wide with their pupil's taking up 90% of their eye, and their frills with curl in. With new things also comes the tendency to cause trouble. They don't mean any harm, but sometimes their jokes can cause a lot of stress and annoyance.
If they were real, humans would definitely find them and keep them as pets, and they would pretty much act like more troublesome and needy dogs.
If anyone likes these creatures and would like to make art or OC's of their own, then you are welcome to, as long as there is credit.
