Description
Arches watercolour cold press A3 185 GSM, watercolour paint, acrylics & polychromos colour pencilsMy first attempt at a hippocampus! He's a mix between a white tipped shark, orca and a horse of course, to sort of give him the gypsy vanner look
I actually only started this drawing cos i wanted to draw clown fish at the time, not the orange ones, the (false anemone fish) badass black ones
and that greenish yellow stuff is my attempt at algae, im not so sure about it atm, i guess i'll get used to it

The Darwin clown fish look good. The whole picture looks great but you should really try cropping out the background peeping out from behind the picture. It will make it look all the more better.

im not good at taking pictures that exclude all of the outside, and my computer gets really slow and sometimes freezes when i try to crop/edit things so i dont do that often. I love the darwin clownfish, the orange ones are nice but i just love the black ones

If your computer crashes with your image editing program maybe scale your picture down first (try >1000px). I had problems with photoshop on my old computer. It would reliably crash with anything over 1,000 x 1,000px. Everything had to be scaled down before it could be tidied up.

i cant seem to give many of my creatures decent bodies, sort of why i try to avoid them but im sure it'll be simple since its just a sort of snake really

wow this is pretty phenominal!!! you are really very, very talented! Its amazing that you managed to get the hippocampus to look so .. real? (pathetic description there, sorry). Its just amazing that its movement looks so fluid and the light and the muscle tone and the proportions are just so well done. And yes those false anemone fish are inredibly badass. honestly this is just amazing.. just looks perfect to me

thanks, its hard to get any fantasy creature to look "believeable" with the pegasus being one of them i think, since if you think about it, a horse would need massive wing to be able to get airbourne, and need the joint of the wing to the body really large to support the wings etc, which is why i havent drawn one yet cos i cant even figure it out The hippocampus seemed a little easier tho since ive seen some decent ones so i gave it try and am happy with it.
Thank you for all the comments, all apprechiated (mind my crappy spelling btw)

Very true .. even if they had hollow bones they'd have to be stick thin to have a hope of getting off the ground too >< God i've been in love with pegasus's ever since fantasia :3 God i havent drawn one of those in years.. maybe if i catch a breather i'll have a go. make the wings massive and try and find a way to make it anatomically correct as possible :/ hmm.. god i need time!! damn you, uni!

LyrebirdJacki In reply to Life-ls-Beautiful [2010-07-10 11:22:01 +0000 UTC]
it would be an acomplishment for someone to make a pegasus anatomically correct, the best way ive thought of was to eliminate the front leg to make it more bird like so it has enough joint muscle to give support to the wings, but then it just looks weird. and perhaps change the hooves to talons? I have no idea, i think it might be better to stick with the pretty anatomically incorrect pegasus.

god you're right there.. i hadnt thought of all that (though i guess that's why my drawings are completely dodgey). i also imagine the wings would have to be beyond massive to support the weight of a horse (even if it had hollow bones like a bird and next to no weight on it).. Yes, I think I totally agree. Anatomically incorrect pegasus it is!!

LyrebirdJacki In reply to Life-ls-Beautiful [2010-11-21 13:04:57 +0000 UTC]
and the joint muscle+bone of the wing to shoulder would have to be massive to move those big wings
π: 0 β©: 1
Life-ls-Beautiful In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2010-12-02 13:34:57 +0000 UTC]
god yes.. well .. even thinking of cockatoos; their wings are pretty massive and they arenβt all that big at all (compared to eagles or horses!).. even the tiniest Pegasus would need wings, muscle and breastbones of a ridiculous size.. unfortunatly I'm lacking in the physics department to even have a guess at how big they'd have to be Oo i'll just go with "freaking huge."

Holy shit Jacki, this is most WOW worthy. Your sea serpent is so cool and I love the way you're drawn the light through the rock, also those clown fish are the most badass mofos of the sea I've ever seen This version of a hippo campus is by far one of my favourites. Another amazing job and I honestly do not know how you find the time to do so much art!

i started it like 4-5 weeks ago and working 1 or 2 hours on it a week because i was doing it at school, then i just picked it up yesterday and finished it all in one hit Cant be bothered studying in otherwords....
It was funny when i showed mum cos she said **gasp** "the horsies dont get eaten do they?" then walked off and continued what she was doing was most weird
im glad you like it

How's the major work going?

oh you shouldnt be procrastinating next year! thats bad, like me with school My mum has a habit of it, she also has a habit at looking at something i spend ages on (same with my brother when he does something creative) and picks out one thing she dislikes and deciding she doesnt like it. thats mums for you
I havent gotten back to it, havent had any big inspirational motivation to do it atm

I think we start it in term 4, which will be term 1 of year 12, and we have 4 terms to finish, as far as I know. I really want to paint/draw a series of parrots, like, really brightly coloured ones, using various mediums and scales and I want to draw the alexandrine parrot in my msn dp to a huge scale because I think it looks so intimidating However I will have to ensure I can actually paint parrots before I start, or it may be an epic fail whale :S

you could do the different varieties of conures i love that alexandrine in your dp, he is very sexy with his menacing glare. well it could be easy to do him up big as long as the photo isnt of small scale i guess, such as that owl i did up big in year 11 was from a small crappy photo that was in black/white which made it a bitch to draw
π: 0 β©: 1
RazerBlade07 In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2010-07-03 06:34:34 +0000 UTC]
But you still managed to make it epic! I think it is in big enough scale, it's from here somewhere I think... I love how many conure species there are, but I've found some amazing macaw shots and stuff as well. I'm so excited I'm getting my conure soon! But have to wait till September because the breeding season is over :\ I totally forgot to take that into consideration.

haha you bet it will be the subject of many future photos. I think i'm getting a green cheeked conure but I have recently come a cross a rose crowned conure in a bird magazine, but they are rarer to get in Aus :\ How are your birds going? and the hopeful aviary?

LyrebirdJacki In reply to RazerBlade07 [2010-07-03 09:01:25 +0000 UTC]
mine are still deciding on their gender, atm they are both females, they get up to some kinky lesbian budgie action like usual green cheek sounds good, i like the maroon bellied ones cos the red is a little heart shape
The avairy isnt going too well, the roll of wire i need cant fit into the car cos the car is little even with the back seats down
but im trying to fix the inside of the shade house first anyway, it has a terrible floor so i might look at getting it concreted for easy cleaning and prevent rats or cats from getting under somehow (even the rabbit, he likes digging to get into those hard to get to places)

RazerBlade07 In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2010-07-03 13:51:57 +0000 UTC]
haha, dayum those budgies and their kinky behaviour! My budgie Pringle died the other day, she was 8 and it was crushing also my quails disappeared, I think they were taken by something, but it doesn't seem to be safe for birds at my house at the moment :S That sucks about the aviary, maybe you could just strap the wire to the top of the car? Yeah I think you should concrete it, don't want that wascally wabbit of yours invading! Hope you get it soon
