Description Yes, its a Bush Thick Knee or otherly known as the Bush Stone Curlew (i call them Stonned Curlews for various reasons).
In Aboriginal culture, this bird is a symbol of death, and with a grumpy face like this one i can tell why lol.
There were a pair of these birds living in the carpark at my skool that had 2 chicks last year whith one disappering after a storm and the other leaving the nest as we suspect because he was pretty big and fully fledged. They were still here this year, but at the moment they arnt in their usual spot so i guess they left.

I dont think the background was the right colour, i think i should of done a similar colour to the curlew since it is a camoulflage bird, i just automatically thought green would be good since it harmonises with red colours, at least it matches its sleepy eye

the birds do look cartoony naturally, if you've seen them (i know they are rare in certain places in australia) im not sure about what aboriginal culture its from but my reles who are of aboriginal culture tell me these birds are a symbol of death. thanks for the comment

we have a pair of curlews that live in the park next to our house!! they recently (by recently i mean a couple of months ago) had babies too, but we found one of them run over on the road
they're so amazing at camouflaging; as soon as they stop running they disappear haha
great drawing

*eye goggle* The feathers look so lovely! They (from the computer) feel so soft! xD Just at the back of the head though, the feathers sort of cut off o.O

Normal pencil for this one then too?

too lazy to do them propery at the back of the head, just kinda did a line around the basic shape insted of letting them flow and fluffy like.
polychromos coloured pencils for this one

thanks for the comment

You get birds like this just sitting around your school? That's amazing! I like the coloring style in this piece. Very soft. Peaceful looking, even with a grumpy bird.

so far ive only seen the 2 of these birds and they are pretty well hidden because they are probably about the size of a chicken with really long legs, they arnt good flyers either so if the wrong person found them they wouldnt have a very good chance of escaping. i tried to do even all the small feathers insted of straight shading this time, the real piece looks nicer than the scan tho. thanks, i think his grumpyness is what makes him look good

Now I've got mental images of children chasing grumpy chickens around a schoolyard going on.
