Great work! Looks like something that could've walked straight out of one of Wayne Barlowe's Hell paintings

Love this one. Like an old book cover. Especially fond of the design. Nice work!

Very authentic portrait, with a ton of character. Definitely reminds of good old sci-fi covers! I really hope this is not a one off illustration, and you'll get the chance to develop it further and well get to see some at least sketches revealing more about this guy's culture and environment! Gives me some Stephen Baxter - Behemoth vibes as well which is awesome, if you haven't read it, by all mean do it!

Thanks! I'll look into that book.
Unfortunately, this guy probably is just a one-off, at least for now. He might find his way into a project down the line, though.

Thanks!

Beautiful! reminds me of the cover of an old 80's sci-fi paper back novel. Back when they had cool covers

SO COOL!! The deep sockets, pronounced cheek bones, and creases around the eyes really capture the unsettling primate-like ambiguity of pachyderm skulls. The puffy tribal scarring, beadwork and rough fabrics perfectly communicate what I would imagine for an "aboriginal" posthuman or quasi-human....Hell, maybe this is what the Anthropachs [link] or Deinotherimen [link] look like multiple K years after the fall of their empire(s)!

Thanks, Tom! That quality about pachyderm skulls is exactly what inspired this piece, plus that beautiful shelf-like form on their skulls that separates their cheekbones and nostrils from their maxilla.
I'd forgotten all about your elephellows! That's a very plausible backstory for this guy.

Possibly, or perhaps they were created by a sorcerer or something. This image is more fantasy than sci-fi.

I love the tusks, but I think he needs a trunk to complete the look.

Perhaps. However, I was inspired to paint this by looking at a picture of a fossil mastodon skull, which of course has no trunk. So that's the shape I was basing this off of.
