Description
Here's the second jewel fish I painted. The design is influenced by the work of JakkaS, an artist who frequents ConceptArt.org. The concept:Originally bred for food, the Quat is slow and plump. Its body is heavy and its fins are small and weak, so it is very slow swimmer. Therefore, it is recommended for occasions where little movement is required, such as musical performances or dinner parties. A vocal and affectionate fish, it will often rest on or nuzzle its owners, and emits endearing grunting and purring noises. Nets and storage tanks are available for the easy transportation and containment of these slow, lovable jewel fish.

Too bad you missed the DEEP deadline, since I think your designs have a good chance to get the votes.
Anyways, I'm really curious on the origins of these fishes.....are they offshoots from Terran species or perhaps from somewhere else other than Earth? Thanks

The jewel fish that I've painted are alien lifeforms that have converged with Terran fish. Ichthyomorphs, you could call them. They come from a number of different planets, and some of them are indeed from Earth.
I would have liked to have put more effort into DEEP, but I was going through an unmotivated phase at the time. :\
Thanks for the comments.
