Description
The totality of the the Full Lunar eclipse of 20070828 was quite dark, and of a very unusual set of dark colors.This Moon rendered as maybe 1/2 exposure at ISO 6400 with the 1D Mark III DLSR attached to a 127mm aperture telescope. In fact, it became difficult to see the top of the Moon with the telescope to center it in the frame of the camera. The sky became very dark, where some 45 minutes before there was Moon light causing shadows.

This photo an enhanced version of the totality photo from where the ISO 6400 color photo has been blended with the luminance information from the 4-layer HDR color stack of the Full Moon from the same night with the 4 different exposures at ISO 1250. That photo was also posted here on DA:

To reduce color noise while increasing the brightness of the color, a gaussian blur filter was done to the color layer in Photoshop. Then, the 4-layer stack photo was added as a layer above, and aligned relative to the color Moon below. The 4-layer stack photo was desaturated, so that it's color would not affect the color seen in the totality phase of the eclipse. However, the distinct edges allow a lot of edge detail to become visible from the color of the totality photo, and that color is separately enhanceable for viewing brightness.

So, this composite provides the best of edge definition, with a brightness expansion of the surreal colors of the eclipsed Moon.
