Description
Ok. so here is the whole thing. All of the buttons are pushable. The on and off switch moves, and the volume dial turns.I also made a removable game cartridge.
Yup. that's that. Done with cardboard for a long time.
EDIT: Oh my gosh guys...I am literally in tears. I never thought this would get so many views and favorites. And even end up on the front page! Thank you all so much. I can't even. This is really something i never thought would happen. ;A;
EDIT AGAIN: Aww, thanks for the DD!

Still could be awesome though..
Imagine building it the whole wiring of the Gameboy and have the screen.
Now that's what I call a game BOI

This looks incredible! I'm astounded by the detail and thought that went into this - and based on some of the earlier comments and replies, it sounds like you did it pretty fast, too?
Really amazing work with recreating the fonts (I find that fun, personally, and have been tasked with it for work, but I've never tried in cardboard, and its not the easiest of mediums ). I can't stop looking at all the folds and interlinking pieces - its such a smooth design that its only in a few areas you can even see the true nature of it - the actual folded card around the on/off slider, the cut edge of the 'Nintendo' logo and such. Even the screw heads visible at the back look seamless. And I have to ask - though I know this image has now been up for years - how many cardboard boxes did it take? XD
It just looks stunning; such a faithful, well done recreation and I think you can tell this was something close to your heart. Congrats on the DD - beyond deserved

I wanna do a cardboard thing now. no idea where to start though. what made you want to do the giant cardboard game boy?

MaboroshiTira In reply to D-TRiK [2014-02-23 07:36:44 +0000 UTC]
It started out as a class project. We had to take an object, scale it up, then build it out of cardboard. I chose a game boy for the nostalgia factor. It's an object that is well recognized by most people and also means something to me on a personal level.Β

wow you even made a game to put inside it!? what grade did you get on this?
π: 0 β©: 1
MaboroshiTira In reply to Rika24 [2013-10-26 19:19:58 +0000 UTC]
Yup! I almost ran out of time to make it too.Β
I literally made it the day before the project was due. Only because i had promised my teacher i would have one.Β
And unfortunately my teachers don't always tell us what our grades are on projects. And since it was the last one of the semester, i didn't have time to ask. But i assume i got an A, my teacher loved it. So yeah. c:

Thank you!
And personally, i think adding paint would take away from it.Β
It would completely lose the cardboard feeling...which was the whole point of this project. c:
