Eliah ran towards the end of the terminal, he was waiting for Angelique to disembark.
The two of them had known each other for 5 years, since she bought Alejandro, the wonderful son of Artist. Their constant exchange had led to them becoming very good friends so when they caught wind of the Long Shot Acres Spring Show having a Pas de Deux category they jumped on the occasion to collaborate together.
When Angelique entered the terminal, in the flow of people she felt a bit lost. “What now?” she thought and then she saw Eliah waving at her and felt instant relief, at least if she was lost, she wouldn’t be alone. He helped her find her luggage and off they went. Their priority was to check on their horses, they had come in a different plane of course but they knew very well that flying wasn’t the thing horses enjoy the most. Fortunately the company was wonderful to them and Long shot Acres provided a trailer to carry the horses from the airport to their estate. Both stallions were a bit stressed and rather tired but good overall.

Once at Long Shot acres they had the chance to take a stroll with the horses around the property to help them relax and stretch their limbs. Treats were given and a lot of nice people were met but it was late and the jet lag caused the two friends to be exhausted so they went to their room to rest. While there, they discussed their plan for the Pas de Deux, of course already having an idea for their program,they had spent weeks sending sketches and videos back and forth. Tomorrow they would practice together for the first time and excitement arose. Fortunately they arrived a week early just so they could train together and so their horses would get the time to get used to the place and relax.

The very next morning Angelique and Eliah practiced their routine; there were some hiccups here and there, Artist was a 12 years old in training for more than 6 years and Alejandro was way younger so of course he didn’t have the same experience, let alone strength, but being smart and full of energy, he managed to perform very well during these training sessions. The two stallions kept their nose forward and their spirits up. After a couple of days the two pairs worked together like magic.

On the third day of the competition, they started getting ready for their Pas de Deux.
You could hear the speakers and commentary throughout the whole property, grandstands were filling and a neigh accompanied by the sound of birds set the atmosphere.
It was finally time.
Having waited the first few morning hours, by straddling through the built up shops, doing each other's makeup and occasionally checking the starter and result list - the pair of friends were anxiously awaiting their turn, it was time to check on their steeds once more..
Filled with rushing riders and stomping hooves, the stables were certainly not a place of peace. Yet father and son were peacefully grabbing their last bits of hay, while being braided in by one of the hired groomers.
“At least they’re having a blast”, Eliah sighed, anxiously awaiting being tracked by every move, thanks to the spectators and judges.
The silvery blonde gave a smirk, “don’t worry about it, it will be over in no time - seize the moment”, while leading out her youngster, who you could hardly tell apart from his sire.
The tingling of stirrups being rolled up and girths being tightened ringed in the ears of all.
All that was left to do was bridling, and perhaps a sip of wine, to ease the temper - to which Eliah took it out of her hand in a heartbeat. “Girl, you better keep your focus for this.”
It was time to warm up, there were only 3 starters left before it was their turn - you never know whether or not you have 30 minutes, or less than 15, depending on the others' performance.
The warm-up ring was filled with snorting, sweaty horses.

“Next up: Pair 803, Angelique Toussaint on Alejandro, and Eliah Correa on Maestro Artista, performing the Pas De Deux.”

Both Stallions were carefully observing their surroundings as the sun was shining spotlight upon them.
A trot to the center line, quiet in the audience, and the chirping of birds set the atmosphere..
Until music set in.
With a dash of grace, the pairs strut on, looking uniform and dazzling with every step.
Looking like a playful game, the stallions light footedly circled around one another, persuading the audience with their expressive yet soft looking gaits and form.
As the Music sped up, the dance became more and more confident - the power given to the stallions through their riders was absolutely memorable - the riders matching the temperament of their horses, giving smirks and enjoying each and every bit of the performance was the thing that brought everything together.
The Harmony between the horses and their handlers was so clear it felt almost touchable.
Experience or not, each individual was trying their hardest to please, reaching higher and higher for the stars.
Yet all good moments must come to an end, and so it did.
With a last pirouette, towards each other, the dance was completed.
And with the last greet, and the sound of panting, the applause of the audience drowned out everything, in this special moment.
