Description To go along with Cheetor from earlier, it's NightViper.

Uuuhh... Yeah. I know. The toy says it's a guy and not a girl, but there's a long and complicated story to go along with the sex change here. I'd rather not go into it right now...

Ah hell, let's just say it's the Japanese Night Viper. Looks the same, named the same, but not the same person. There.

So basically, you took the whole "I'm a man in Japan" thing and flipped it on its head... hence this...

More or less.

Truth is the story goes back 18 years when I was interning in the show. A lot of us saw the unnamed prototype and though it was supposed to be Botanica. It obviously wasn’t, but the idea had stuck with me,

So yeah. It’s a lot less strange sounding now than it was 18 years ago.

Very cool Mach! I know I've seen this design before in a comic done by you as well, I think. : )
Really, considering the unique techno-organic nature at that time... it'd be pretty easy to explain the change, lol. : ) just need a nannite drug or two...

I'm not sure. I am backed up on a bunch of stuff... But I'm actually giving though to seeing if I can draw every single one of the BM characters, in the Sourcebook styles. It's only 43... Not counting repaints of the same characters. (Like the 5 versions of Cheetor.)

Why does Hasbro insist on repainting characters an calling them new ones? I mean, it is so...lazy of them

I actually understand why, though there was a time it baffled me too. It's not so much Hasbro's decisions, as much as it's a financial choice as well as enforcements placed upon them by the retail chains. You'd be surprised how much power they have over what get's released. For example, let's take Classics Bumblebee. The retail stores demand a certain amount of toys, but cost of production means Hasbro can only make so many. And you can't really release Bumblebee several times in a row, because what may in one area be a major seller in other areas would be a shelfwarmer. Solution? Repaint him red and instant Cliffjumper. If they have the forethought enough (which you can't really predict to be honest, as no one's a psychic) you can make a different mold for his head ahead of time. But sometimes, if it's that minor of a difference, as is the cae for BUmblebee and Cliffjumper, it's just more economical to go with the same head.

However, as Hasbro just learned with the movie toys... There's also another case where a toy might be so popular that they can't keep the damn things on the shelfs so even a repaint of it is in demand. So they'll release a Cliffjumper and then when and then can catch up a bit and release another Bumblebee. But Hasbro has got to keep the collectors happy as well, also to protect against potential cases of "localized shelfwarming" so they release Bumblebee again, but this time with a different color scheme as "Stealth Bumblebee". Kids get their Bumblebee and collectors have a new toy.

Honestly, having that job at Hasbro in deciding what toys to make to me would be the worst job in the world. I don't envy Aaron Archer's position one bit.

Mmmm, and a Pred to boot.

MachSabre In reply to TM2DB [2007-11-11 23:47:23 +0000 UTC]

Well it's known that a lot of the Maximals in BM were Predacons, but they just called them Maximals just to keep it less confusing for the kids. Night Viper is a cobra. All the Beast Warriors that turned into cold blooded animals (Grimlock aside) were all Preds. (Or at least started off as Preds, like Blackarachnia and Dinobot.)

I'm willing to bet Night Viper was a Pred before the Viralclysm.

TM2DB In reply to MachSabre [2007-11-12 03:42:09 +0000 UTC]

You and me both. I always figured she hooked up with Silverbolt and they, along with Buzzsaw and all the other known Preds, went and restarted the Predacon faction. Cause I mean lets face it. Silverbolt in BM was about as Predacon as you could get. Blackarachnia? Not so much. So Nightviper and Silverbolt would have made a much better pair. Much to BA's dismay of course.

In the immortal words of Terrorsaur: "Ah, it's good to be a Predacon!"
