Description
Clouds and Water in Zen monasteries are called unsui and Zen temple decorations frequently include designs of clouds and water. Clouds move freely, forming and re-forming in response to external conditions and their own nature, unhampered by obstacles. Water is yielding but all-conquering. Water extinguishes Fire or, finding itself likely to be defeated, escapes as steam and re-forms. Water washes away soft Earth or, when confronted by rocks, seeks a way around. Water corrodes Iron till it crumbles to dust; it saturates the atmosphere so that Wind dies. Water gives way to obstacles with deceptive humility, for no power can prevent it following its destined course to the sea. Water conquers by yielding; it never attacks but always wins the last battle. These virtues of clouds and water are the virtues of the perfected Zen person, whose life is characterized by freedom, spontaneity, humility, and inner strength, plus the resilience to adapt to changing circumstances without strain or anxiety.- Philip Kapleau, The Three Pillars of Zen

Wish I had some inner strength.... but I'm probably too attached to the idea that I should do anything besides lying in my bed... such a serene photo.

You're right, doing things would probably be a more satisfying way of life. But I seem to be unable to do anything

Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Gee.... should I consider it a reassuring thing then that I'm too paralyzed to do anything at all?

Don't look at it that way, think of it as being reborn every second of the day. Each second is a fresh start.

It reminded me of something else, but a moon works too

I like the way the trees in the middle and the sky reflect off the water
