Description
I originally had the standard semi-nude “witchette” doing a little invocating, as they oft do.... But after a lot of tweaking, shifting and clicking, I finally decided she was far more conspicuous in her absence (plus she was far easier to render by not being there).
Maybe I'll render another with her back from her trip ...... >>> Thar' ya go!

Cheers Abelot! That little candle in the corner was the thing that took the longest...It's so nice when somebody notices things I made an effort with

Absolutely lovely. So much to love in this - radaVid caught many of my favorites. I did just see the "pocket-sized" pentragram on the rafter. I like how the one on the floor (septagram?) seems to disappear in the moonlight. The candle does look great - and I love the way the soot comes off the edges of the flame - it looks very realistic. The texture on the chair is great - really works well in the moonlight... and of course, I love the reflections.
Can hardly wait to see the witch when she get back.
Thanks!!

A septagram indeed by Jove!!!!
The candle was certainly a challenge... But for once I persevered (What would phraught do He'd solve the problem! )
The light reflected on the chair from the "Hearth" is my standard trick: 2 lights (1 reddy-orange and 1 orangey-red) just slightly offset (by mm) to soften the resulting shadows/reflections - usually seems to work
As I was explaining to Blades-123, I gave up using "specular" highlights a long time ago... Reflection+Blur FTW!
At the mo attempting to do the "Back" pic for this "BRB" .... Trying things I've never done before consequently coming up against dozens of problems (Love a good problem!)

BTW: FWIW: I did note that the sky seemed too dark for the amount of light pouring into the room - but I trust your judgement that it's better this way. Looking forward to that "prequel"!

Not actually too dark phraught...just a tad too not there! I originally applied a strong DoF, so the sky didn't really matter, but then I switched it off to save render time. The pic is totally WYSIWYG, there is absolutely nothing off camera (save the remainder of the table), even the skirtingboard ends at the borders

What would Phraught do?? He'd never have tried anything so intricate and complex - or he'd call in the expert! Madaigual!
I like that lighting trick - I need to try it - hadn't see The Game Interrupted in quite a while - looks even more amazing now.
I'm not sure how the reflection/blur trick will work in Poser - but I believe I've seen such options and will have to give that a try - once I can drag myself back to it.
Running into problems you say?! Yeah! That's where the fun is!
(Looking forward to seeing our spell casting Miss).

Thanks Blades-123
Although even as I write, I'm rerendering it... I never see what's wrong until after it's been submitted: The cat is made of plastic , I accidentally set reflection to 100% instead of 10% (I never use "specular" settings on anything, I prefer "reflection+blur reflection"), and the texture on the floor
looks exactly like a texture on the floor, even with displacement it still looks flat... So I made 24 floorboards with "real" gaps between them... Ha-ha-ha: Pete 1 - Computer 0. I'm beginning to feel that it's me vs the machine . The only thing I'm moderately happy with is the candle.... SSS to give a lit waxy effect

Maybe the witch is in cat form. I'd suspect a normal cat to be more wary of the dreaded rocking chair of tail pinching.

Ahhhh don't say that... It kills the mood ... I must be assertive: "She's definitely popped out through the cracked window for a while" (if that's okay with you?)
I actually had a cat that loved to curl up under the rocking chair... He was probably just proving how hard he was!

Well, it looks like me and the cat will be waiting for her return then.

wonder full render. you capture the essence of Halloween.
your attention to detail again pays off handsomely.

Thanks radaVid, I did enjoy this one...although I was tempted to put a lot more into it (the original one with the semi-nude witch had a moonlit midnight sky and a whole night-time village visible through the window), but it was far too busy. The luminous pentagram was where the witch was standing on tiptoe, invoking a spirit via the pentagram fixed to the rafter.
Render time = 46 minute walk with Dawg, plus it gave us a reason to come home.
