Description
This is the first of my redesigns from a little remembered Hanna-Barbara cartoon called Gravedale High. Whilst the original was set in a high school for monsters, I chose to update it and move it to a college/university setting. This is actually my very first attempt at digitally colouring a picture from scratch so I'm rather pleased with the end results.ΒIn the original cartoon, Duzer was a rather self centred valley girl, so I decided to give her a bit of an overhaul as I felt the valley trope is rather dated. The name Duzer almost sounds like something straight out of Grease so I decided to go with a modern rockabilly girl look, I also added tattoos which are of Greek statues to reference her background. I also decided as she got older she would have grown a few more snakes.
I see this version of Duzer more of a dry, sarcastic character, think Jane from Daria. Whilst Duzer is very cynical she is quite insightful and has a great friendship with her best friend Cleo. After many years of denial she has finally admitted her feelings for Vinnie Stoker and the two are now dating.

Thanks man. She was the first one and the first full on digital paint I did. So as I've progressed with the others and got better I decided to go back and give her a touch up

Very nice, I really like the details you've put into the character, especially the tattoos that relate to the gorgon's origins in mythology. I like how you did the snakes too. And great job considering this was your first digitally coloured piece! Great work, keep it up!

Originally I was going to keep all the characters at school age like the original cartoon, but when I decided to make her a rockabilly there was no way I couldn't not give her lots of tats. So Gravedale High became Gravedale u
Thanks Im leraning more and and more as I go along with each pic. I have learned that a mouse is relly hard to use when going digital lol

Yes, the mouse is not the most natural drawing tool in the world (I switched to graphics tablet because of this, it's much more natural and you don't have to go for the really expensive ones either, I have a cheap one (well, it cost Β£50 5 years ago) and it's served me well for years), but looking at that I didn't guess that you did it with a mouse! I'm always impressed when I learn that something like your stuff was drawn with a mouse

I do actually remember that cartoon. Β Had a catchy opening as I recall and I even remember one joke. Β "From which marsh did you get these mellows?" Β Despite a somewhat creative concept and better than average production values, it didn't really take any risks or do much to differentiate it from the crowds of other Saturday morning cartoons.
Anyway, interesting redesign!

Thanks for saying so.
You know strangley he was one of the more challanging ones to redesign. I havent deviated too much from his original desingn as i feel his look was a big part of his character seeing as he had no other features
