Escher-esque; transcendent, mind-blowing, and beautiful...

happy you like it, sam.
i get a lot of comparisons to escher.
it's flattering.
my dad's escher books were a huge impact on me as a child.
escher's woodcut "puddle" [link] is one of my all-time favorites of his. it's just so goddam beautiful. i find myself staring at it just as much as his optical illusion work.

There was a famous book comparing Escher's way of thinking to Bach's music and the mathematics of someone named Gรถdel-- I keep meaning to read that book! I think Escher has been every bit as influential as Dalรฎ on modern artists...

his ideas provide endless inspiration. i mean, whenever ever hit a creative block, i just draw an invisible grid to go by and see what happens...

Every once in awhile, I get the opportunity to see some original art that blows my mind to smithereens-- I saw an original Da Vinci in Russia, I saw both an original Ingrรฉs and a Bouguereau at the Denver Art Museum-- man, I would LOVE to see an original Escher; I think that would be the thrill of a lifetime, actually...

Super cool!
Those trees, in that angle, seem to be forming an stairway to heaven.

nice thought, brother. thank you.
i love drawing trees for some reason i don't quite understand. my last name is german for "tree", but i doubt that has anything to do with it, who knows maybe it does?
i wanted to depict what i feel are the trees existential love (devotion) for the sun. reaching onward and upward, despite losing their leaves in praise of simply being.
