Revenge! CollectionInspired by Spoon's "Revenge!", which I highly recommend you download here: [link] (It's from the Wired CD, which is Creative Commons, so don't worry about the music cops.)
Please look at my gallery for the looks in detail, which have some clarifying shots/details about the outfit which you would totally miss otherwise. Especially for Look 8 (The back is cool, I promise).

THEME BRIEFING
This collection was predominately inspired by the song, "Revenge!" by Spoon, but also by the concept of revenge on it's own, which the song gets very well. The girl in this collection is out on a mission, and it's not a pretty one. But she won't rest until she's done it. It's far too late for mercy now.
I wanted strong, angular, slashing lines. I wanted fierceness, power, and disdain. Labyrinthine mathematical patterns -- like revenge, at first they seem cold, simple, focused, but before long you can get lost in them. And silver silk ribbons like knifeblades.
The shoes, naturally, had to be made for walking, so I made sure to stick with tough girl boots, or at least imposing angular wedges.
Finally, the last gown is deconstructed, no wonder after all this girl's been through.
JUDGE'S COMMENTS
The judges were very impressed with your collection. The color, fabric, and accessory story was fabulous. The theme was arcane but it translated well into your collection. It was cohesive. The collection wasn't gimmick free, however. The judges didn't respond well to the drapes of look six. But almost all of the silhouettes rocked, along with your collection. Those boots are amazing.

This collection is wonderful. I love the darkness of it. I especially love look 2 and 3. It's beautiful. Oh and how did you put them all together on one page? I have photoshop 5.0 and I don't know how, can you help me?

copy paste onto a brand new image file with a much larger canvas.
if the image is multiple layers, go to edit --> copy merged (it'll copy everything you select on all visible layers)

ok this stuff is amazing and im bout to look at the other designs
1) i like how incorportated different styles Ex.60's looking pants in the 6th from the left
2) make the model look up a lil bit to show some revenge in their facial expression(but it still has a strong affect)
3) umm when you make the outfits call me cuz im your 1st customer(seriously this stuff is too cute and i can rock these outfits)
4) the shoes are amazing cuz they simple and incorporate well into each outfit...and balance very well

I wanted to show not the kind of "GRADHGRHH REVENGE!!" as much as a kind of passive-aggressive stewing "I'll get him, just you see" revenge...it still doesn't look quite the way I like (except for 7) but i'm happy with it overall

i've been in an artistic slump for virtually the whole week. this collection has really struck up a great deal of new inspiration for me

Six, the one the judges didn't like, is actually my favorite. I love the mix of the dress and the cut-off gloves. Eight is another particular favorite. The coat and those pants rock.

i normally don't like giving critiques, because it is after all YOUR idea, and not mine...
but i personally would like the 5th piece better if the white part was red like in 2 of the others. does that make sense?

Yeah, it makes sense. That might help it look less girly, but you also made me think...what about thick crimson graphic lines over the white, in a style similar to the existing black lines? That would be quite hot I think.

I love fashion, so I'm going to have to be the bad guy here. I think these designs are either too simple in some cases, or too elaborate in others. I think you should find a happy medium in them. Just keep in mind the comsumer when you design. What audience are you aiming to sell to? That should be a constant question in your mind... I'm not sure I'm too jazzed about these in my taste, but that's just my opinion. Keep up the good work, because obviously alot of people enjoy these designs. Congrats on the DD!

I did design this with an audience in mind (in her 20's, urban, intellectual, cynical, etc). Also, I tried to have a mix of simpler sellable sportswear and more complicated marketable items.
But there are plenty of different tastes around, so you're completely allowed to not like my stuff!

Critique- The costume designs are okay. But they all seen the same. The dark emo look is old and annoying. Also the people have extreamly small heads and sickeningly skinny bodies.
The poses leave much to be desired. I mean get someone who had their hands behind their head like they just ran a mile.
okay I'm done critiquing. all in all its okay. A bit more detail would be nice, but its okay.

I know what you mean about the dark emo look. I was trying to go for a more sparse, rock-influence. I know they look skinny, but fashion illustrations are typically 9 head lengths tall, but sometimes as much as 12! Most people are around 7. Although I hate the skinny models, so I know what you mean there.
For the poses, I was going for subtlety again, that kind of pent-up rage you express when you're stomping somewhere. A lot of the poses, I agree, seem too tame (except for 6, which is what I was going for), but I wasn't going for the kind of girl who's thrashing around everywhere.
And yeah, I wish it could have had more detail too, but I was rushing to get it in by a deadline
