This piece was commissioned by . The idea was to transform Stygian the shadow pony into a big blue alicorn via a special potion, becoming as powerful as Celestia to help out Twilight. The client provided the following dialogue:

Part 1: Stygian - "They say that there is no pattern to how these potions work, but I believe that there is one, and I intend to show it with myself..."

Part 2: Stygian - "Yes, I can see my form growing and changing, in the manner I wanted it to...!"

Part 3: Stygian - "I've reached the size and strength matching Celestia, all that's missing is..."

Part 4: Twilight - "Stygian, are you OK in there? You haven't come out from the lab all day and..." Stygian - "Oh, I'm quite a bit more than alright. Open the door and see for yourself!" Twilight - (stunned shock after seeing the new form the first time) "... Who are you and what have you done with Stygian?!?" Stygian - (chuckles) "Your Highness, I thought I told you I was doing an experiment with how the potions work. My theory was that they operate on conscious and subconscious desire of those that ingest them, and my theory was proven correct! All this magic power flowing in me now, giving me strength and flight... it's better than the shadow ever offered me!" Twilight - "Well, I'm glad we now know a way we can control and utilize these potions for positive outcomes, but I don't understand why you decided to change yourself this way Stygian?" Stygian - "Writing books is good and all, but that can only get me so far. I still yearn to fight, to lead the forces of friendship against every enemy of Equestria! I had nothing to lose, and everything to gain, by trying the potion. You are a much more worthy leader than Starswirl was, and I promise I will use my new powers to assist you in any way I can, Your Highness!" Twilight - "Well, honestly I'm very flattered by all that. Yes, there's much you have to learn now - spells, flight training, officer training - but I promise if you're willing to put the effort in you can be the General flying beside me in defense of this kingdom." Stygian - (bows) "Your Highness, I cannot thank you enough. I cannot make up for a thousand years of shadow even with these new powers, but I will do my best to try as long as you rule over the kingdom of Equestria!"
