Description
In the latest issue of Superman, the new Wonder Woman talks to Superman and tells him that he was the one who inspired her to be a hero.Scans_daily was pretty upset about this and I can relate. Wonder Woman is the most iconic female superhero, one of the first to not be a spinoff from a male superhero and having her suddenly be inspired by a male superhero sits kinda weird. It shouldn't have happened, but if they did want nu Wonder Woman to be inspired by someone, it shoulda been Power Girl or somebody.
Wonder Woman, Superman, and Robin all belong to DC. The sandwich is mine.

Damian: I'm sorry Mrs Wonder, but I still think every man is more stronger than woman.
Wonder Woman: Brat.

The story of how Damien made Wonder Woman a feminist (ignoring all timeline-related logic):
I have arrived in the World of Man! Now it is time to---
(Small, dark-haired boy ignores her speech as he shoves past her.)
Out of my way, woman.
...Hmm. That statement was perfectly accurate, yet for some reason I feel insulted. Perhaps I need to investigate the World of Man further...

"Wonder Woman is the most iconic female superhero"
Thats not saying much; All that means is she was one of the first & as such has had one of the longest print runs (purely because DC can't get rid of her... also can't seem to make her at all relevent to a mass contemporary audience). Personally i see no reason why this would stop her from being inspired by Superman to be a hero & not just a warrior. Seems to make perfect sense to me, considering how inspiring Superman is. But then again you were discussing it on Scans_daily, a den of knee jerk reactionist feminism & the place where good taste goes to die (oh how i miss the real Scans_Daily).

...why is that not saying much? Obviously something must have clicked with the general public for her to succeed where the Blonde Phantom, Fantomah, and Miss Victory failed. Gloria Steinem placed Wonder Woman on the first cover of Ms. in 1972. She's been a feminist icon for a while now. Don't you think having her be inspired by a man, any man, is sorta weird?

oh oh oh, history lesson.
Wonder Woman was essentially the first female super hero, she was invented during a time period where the concept had sparked the imagination of the general populace. where as characters such as The Blonde Phantom were released much later & by Marvel (technically Timely Comics), along with Golden Girl, Miss America, Namora, Sun Girl, Venus, and Millie the Model. In fact all those short lived characters premiered in a time period where the super hero comic was on the decline (right before the Golden Age of Comics).
WW was released in the middle of two seperate cultural shifts: The spectre of a World War & the birth of "The Superman". Both sparked the imagination. However since then Wonder Woman has failed to live up to her potential as a character.
Gloria Steinem may very well have placed Wonder Woman on the cover of Ms in 1972, but not before she organised a boycott of the direction that DC was taking the character: The direction i am referring to is the now iconic white pant suit era of Wonder Woman. She wrote some truly disguisting things about both the writing team & DC in general. Funny thing is, that the direction is now considered by contemporary feminist to be the least sexist era.
Unfortunately since then DC continues to Grandfather WW into to "The Trinity," even though as a character she hasn't done anything to deserve the spot; either internally to the meta narrative, or externally in the way of sales.
"She's been a feminist icon for a while now"
Yeah & i find that problematic. For starters "feminist icon" is a term without a definition, because the term "feminist" is a term without a proper definition (& by proper i mean a definition given by people who are not feminists... Never take someones definition for any group they are in, as they will give you the fictional polished version, doesn't matter what group it is).
More problems with the term "feminist icon" appear, when you realize that feminism of the pre-1960's has nothing to do with contemporary feminism. This really dates the character, meaning you either update the character, drop the feminism angle completely & make her a fully fledged character, or you stick to anachronisms that stop the character ever becoming anything more the a "feminist icon" & possessing wide commercial appeal (which is why it never sells as well as the other members of the trinity).
"Don't you think having her be inspired by a man, any man, is sorta weird"
No, why would it be weird. Would it be weird if i was inspired to take up a position by someone who just happened to be female, who i greatly respect? See this is exactly the anachronisms i'm talking about... WW is not a feminist icon, she's a "misandric seperatist icon" (ala, the 1960-70s, "we dont need no stinking men, all men are rapists" flavour of feminism. Though she was never written to be such a character, all that is external to the character).
The character needed a complete overhaul, which is why they did with the reboot. Maybe in this iteration Wonder Woman will finally earn her stars and stripes as a member of the Trinity & not just a hanger-on.

Can't stop laughing at how subtly comics are trying to get back to the old "SUPERHEROINES, LOL, THEY BE ALL CRAZY BITCHES."
Because, seriously. *facepalm*

And that's why I'm choosing to ignore that issue even exists. WW inspired to be a superhero by Superman? nope. Shouldn't the GODS have inspired her? Or seeing people in danger and deciding on her own to save them? jeez.

I'd be fine with her wearing pants if it wasn't a horrible rip off of Black Canary. And if they didn't tare apart her back story to do it.
