This is my list of scariest Public Service Announcements and Public Information Films. Hope I don't give you any nightmare fuel!

1. Dark And Lonely Water (1973) This public information film has a Grim Reaper-esque spirit (voiced by Donald Pleasance) creepily naming the dangers of playing too close to risky-looking water. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZWD2s…

2. Searching (1970s) This fire prevention commercial features the interior of a burned-down home, with fear-inducing echoes all around. The message is to warn children and adults not to play with or be careless with matches. www.youtube.com/watch?v=92xPM7…

3. Apaches (1977) While it isn't really a commercial per se, it's actually a short film that's supposed to warn children that farms are not playgrounds. Anyway, a group of children regularly play cowboys and Indians at a farm, but one by one, they all die in horrific manners (e.g. a boy drowning in a slurry pit; a girl drinking poison and dying a slow and painful death) until only one is left. www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0PUMm…

4. Scavengers (1980s-ish) This anti-fur public information film, produced by a company called LYNX, features creepy music and scary buzzing noises. While people go shopping for fur coats, we are given glimpses of flies coming over to a dead animal's body to lay their eggs and produce maggots. In the end, we learn that there are two kinds of scavengers when an animal is killed for its fur... "difference is, the flies don't know any better". www.youtube.com/watch?v=SytC7R…

5. Restaurant Accident (1990s-2000s) In this Canadian PSA (part of a series of PSAs), a young woman is working as a chef when she explains that she is about to have an "accident". But she also states that it isn't really an accident, as she should've cleaned the grease on the floor, and someone shouldn't have kept the deep fryer too close. 6. Construction Safety Association of Ontario PSAs (1980s-90s) There are too many in the following video to name for this one! These commercials all talk about why you should use common sense and be safe when working on construction sites; we also see the horrific injuries and dangers. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rNQsa…

7. Play Safe - Frisbee (1970s) This public information film talks about the dangers of playing too close to a power station. In it, a boy and a girl lose their Frisbee, and the boy decides to go get it out of the power station, only to be shocked to death! www.youtube.com/watch?v=KryOYb…

8. Fireworks and Children (1970s) In this advertisement, a pair of parents are talking about how another person's child is a bad influence on their own child, but unknown to them, the parent's child, Kevin, is severely injured while playing with fireworks. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdEVwr… (it's at 1:48)

9. Kathy Can't Sleep (1980s or 90s, I think) This commercial is part of a series of anti-drunk driving public information films called "Drinking and Driving Wrecks Lives". In this one, a little girl named Kathy is crying as she listens to her mother telling her father off for driving drunk. 10. The Chase (1997) This creepy ad is first seen from the point of view of a fox, which is running from several hound dogs and men on horseback. Just as it escapes to its den, the fox is torn apart by the hounds, and then we see ghastly images of dead foxes due to fox hunting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pUfyR…

11. Grim Reaper Goes Bowling (1980s-90s) This Australian commercial is meant to warn us about AIDS/HIV (as it was made when AIDS was a very serious deal), as several Grim Reapers play bowling - with humans as pins to resemble the many victims of the disease. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtGhFq… (it's the last one; 9:39)

12. Rachael Leigh Cook and Heroin (1990s, I believe) In this famous PSA, actress Rachael Leigh Cook shows us the effects of doing heroin with an egg, a frying pan, and many other objects she destroys in her kitchen.
