Last night, I kicked around the idea of either writing a parody of The Sound of Music or writing a fanfic of the movie with an OC. So, here's my idea for an original character.

Backstory:This is Maria's best friend, Ingrid Schmidt. When Ingrid was 11, her single mother became ill with diphtheria and died, leaving Ingrid on her own. (her father left her and her mother for another woman when Ingrid was 4) Wandering through the streets of town, Ingrid came upon an abbey, and she was taken in by the nuns, who raised her and taught her to be a member of the church; Ingrid later met a young nun-in-training called Maria, and the two of them became fast friends, as Ingrid loves to sing, and wishes to be a famous singer someday. Ingrid and Maria also both enjoy running and playing in the hills; however, Ingrid usually plays by the book and tries to be more cautious and practical, while Maria sometimes forgets to be either of those qualities.

One day, Maria is called to be a governess for a widowed navy captain, and Ingrid goes along with Maria as her assistant. They soon meet the Von Trapp family, and both Maria and Ingrid are shocked that the seven children are run by strict rules. But Maria and Ingrid begin to bond with the children, singing songs and doing fun activities together; Captain Von Trapp also eases on his children, and he slowly falls for Maria. The Captain also starts to see Ingrid as an aunt/older sister figure to the children.
