Description Didn't I say I'd start posting things soon?
Of course, that was quite a while ago now...

Anyway, this was one of Kali's requests. This is Aster, a hippie ghost who made his first appearance in ~KaliPhantom 's story 'Much Ado About Nothing' ([link] ), the third in the Spirit series ([link] ).

I'm angry at myself for adding the flowers. I knew they would look horrid, but that empty -albeit colourful- space was just calling to me. Aster didn't really quite turn out how I'd intended either, but I'm not going to bother being picky. I'll let Kali do that for me.

Aster belongs to

The ability to use the word 'groovy' without bursting into laughter belongs solely to Aster.

Magpie!!!! You've been gone for a while!

Now that's a series I need to read. I think I read the first one but I need to continue it someday. (adds to mile long list of need to read fanfics) Someday...

I like the picture. Kali's right about the black outline but I've done that myself sometimes so I totally understand! Otherwise I love it. Even though I don't know who it is...

I have, haven't I? Ah, well, it's good to be back (for now).

Yeah, I think I did something similar. Read the first one, then just came back ages later and read the series in its entirety. I'm sure you'll get the time eventually.

On a related note, are you reading this?-->[link] I am quite enjoying it.

Thanks. I know; black lines are just so neat and tidy, and, occasionally, totally unnecessary. I'll learn eventually. c:

Well, if you get around to reading the series, then you'll find out soon enough.

Thank you for the comment.

I'm sure I will, but there's so much to catch up on!

No I am not, I'll add that too.

Yeah, I have a thing for black lines too. We'll figure it out...

Indeed I shall.

But of course!

Eeeeeeeee! This is awesome. I love it. You've captured him, I think. The smile, the colours, the welcoming pose… Just says "gimme a hug". And man, do I want to!

So… critiquing. Hands: great. Feet: lovely, but looking way too large. I suppose you can pass it off as them being more in the foreground, but that just seems kind of weird. The jeans look good (however, no pockets?) and the top, while not what I envisioned it being, exactly, is pretty darn Aster and totally fits for him. I may have to edit my mental picture now.

His hair and face are also very nice, though I'm not sure black lines were the right choice for outlining the hair and heard. A light brown or a gold might have been better, so that it doesn't stand out as much. Hartman uses other colours; why can't you? (I know, I know, you weren't thinking.) The beard is the worst for that. It looks like it's one of the beards you hook over your ears.

I like the background too, though I'm curious what it is about Aster that says "solid stripes of colour radiating from a central point" because the other fanart of him also has that. Not about to knock it, though, because it suits him. And while the flowers may not be the most biologically accurate, I like them. The background would have looked too blank without them, and they add to the flower power thing.

Thank you. I actually figured out the pose before I knew what he was going to look like.

Pockets on pants? What makes you think that I would ever pick up on something so obvious? Silly, silly. Yes, the top...that's just what I interpret as being tie-dye. Were you thinking just purple on yellow, then? *curious*

Nope, not thinking at all. I think, this time though, that I can get away with blaming the Sharpie fumes. I will definitely keep that in mind for next time though (because there will be one), so thanks for the suggestion.

The beard: it does, doesn't it? Of course, that's about as far as my knowledge of facial hair extends. *must meet people with beards* I also messed up on his mustache, didn't I? Must fix that next time.

It's just his aura, I imagine. Plus hippies and rainbows kind of go together. Yeah, flowers do not agree with me. At all. Promise I'll take more time on them next time the need should arise.

Thanks, and glad you like like.

Heheh, really? Still looks great.

I saw solid purple with yellow circles, actually. But that's just me. As for pockets, I don't know what I was thinking.

Sharpie fumes! Great excuse! Can I use it if I ever need to? Welcome.

The beard itself looks pretty good, anatomically speaking. It's just the black sharpie that's making it look fake. *knows person with beard*

Heheh, I guess so. I'm just as "good" at flowers, trust me. I completely excuse that part of it.

Very much so.

Yes indeed. Thanks.

Can you even get do that with tie-dye? Mind you, my experience is rather limited...

Well obviously.

Just keep a sharpie (or twenty) on hand, and you can use it whenever you like. Hopefully though, you'll never actually need to.

Thanks. That's something, anyway. *has met person with beard*

Oh, so you too missed out on the 'sketch flowers on everything' phase that girls are supposed to go through? Well, that makes me feel better, anyway. :3

(In reference to my previous reply
...and by the second 'like', I meant 'it'. Oh, gosh, that last line sounds dreadful. XD

I dunno, but I'm pretty sure I've seen something like that, with light whorls on a darker background. I think it's achieved by doing the light colour, then holding bits of the shirt above water and dunking the rest of it in dark dye.

Okeedoke. Must go out and actually buy sharpies, then…. And yeah, hopefully.

Erm … sort of? There are a lot of flowers in my margins. I just didn't compulsively put them on everything I owned. It's more that I missed out on the "have artistic talent" gene than anything else, I think.

Don't worry. I'm very good at substituting the correct word for typos.

Not really, but I do remember having a conversation with him once upon a time...the thread is still hidden somewhere in my mass of comments...

And I agree. Aster=win

Indeed.
