Description
Since I don't have much in the way of illustrative skill so can't contribute art ot the final projects, I'm giving key and tree pendant as incentives for Losing Altitude Kickstarter www.kickstarter.com/projects/a⦠. It's already reached it's main goal, so the art books are a go-grab one and take a look at the stretch goals. While I was making what felt like a zillion keys (only 6 really) I figured I might as well take pictures of the steps. So it's not quite a tutorial yet, the right words just aren't coming, but I haven't been able to expand my class enough to include it yet either.
Thought you guys might have fun with it as is. Play, modify, credit/link me if you use it and please let me know so I can link to your projects on here

Very fine work, keep at it. All steps put together like this is very helpful, but knowing wire info, gauge size and amount needed, would be a great help, yet not something one can't figure out. I have several sub-catagories- free tutorials, free turorials, etc- so I pin you under a few groups as I think the more you are seen by others who follow my pins the better-Keep at it!

I know you keep claiming to the contrary, but I'm sure you'd be fine with wire, I just don't want to take you away from felt!

Β I wish! I'm quite happy with now being able to make my dolls' glasses and earrings in the first 2 or 3 tries! It used to be 5 or 6! :victory:

Good, I'm always worried about if words make it more confusing or not, so did this for now

Cool. My trial student's response to this and the rings was this is too much thinking, you do it for me and I'll tell my daughter I made it. *facepalm*

That is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing! What kind of pliers are you using in the first part,w here you make the different sized embellishments? Those look really useful!

I think they're called step pliers. I got them from rio grande. They make ones with one side concave and others with one side flat. I have the flat ones. The downside is it can leave flat marks on the wire, but the other seems like it might leave scratches if the wire's too thick. I love them though, and they're great for making earwires.

Well I can't manage the stunning complexity I find by others on here so I'll at least try for neat endings. (My grandmother was always a stickler for finishing her stitches beautifully.)

Amazing tutorial and couldn't have come at a better time (friend requested a key for her bday present). I'll use this as inspiration (along with google image search/staring at what skeleton keys I have/ whatever I can dreg up from my own brain). Thank you so much!

Awesome. Show me when it's done and safe to show! I found kimberliekohler.com/985/wire-w...Β while looking for a project for a much younger crowd, might be worth a try for the holidaysΒ if she keeps on the keys thing.

You are welcome
Your focus on the object is quite good.
Natural lighting is great as you get all the shadows.
Also if you have a small compact camera use the macro
settings for small objects, it does wonders.

I sit on the porch floor to get natural lighting as diffused as I can.
It's sadly not terribly compact, but I do so love the macro setting!

It isn't too bad. The worst part is marking the needlenose pliers if you don't have those step ones. But if you think you'll be playing with wire awhile, you totally want to get a pair. I love mine and wish it hadn't taken me several years to discover they existed!

Anyway, I can't wait to see more work from you! ^^
