Description
A commission piece. She is 5x7, so relatively small compared to most of my other pieces. This is also the first of many this size...just trying out new things for conventions...price wise.7/7/05: Just tweaked her a little...added some more yellows and blended a bit better. She is on the "backside" of charcole paper...in case anyone wanted to know.
90% colored pencil...prismacolors is the brand. The other 10% is acrylic, mostly to pop out the white highlights on her hair and to deepen the reds a bit. I used tempra on her face (white highlights only) because I can color pencil over that once it dries. (Only if I made the highlight overly bright.) I thin down the tempra to pretty much water. Then I go in with a itty bitty brush and play around with the highlight. I am selling the prints of this piece for about 5$ at Conventions...because my normal sized prints run about 15-20$ and some people get all snooty about that for some reason. At least now they can walk away with something. I am trying out bookmarks as well.

People who cop an attitude when buying art should try creating something themselves. Maybe then they would appreciate how much time and effort goes into a really good piece.
Like this one.

I love the feeling you portrait in this picture. Almost like shes a temptress, beakoning out to any wayward stranger that happened by. And the colors bring out her emotion, since red is the color for love and passion, and of course, what you named her Rubies, jems and other such trinkets. Her eyes seem to tell a story, like she doesnt need body movements to know what she wants to do.

You use colored pencils so well. I have a ton of Prismacolors, but I can't use them very well. *sigh* Wonderful drawing. The skin tones are beautiful, and the details are gorgeous. Great work!

Terriffic composition and color balance. A refreshing traditional peice, wish I could find more traditional art with this level of technical brilliance. Very well done.

Wow your here too? I am more active on DA is you haven't noticed. Not to mention I have two daily Dev's under my belt now...and I never got one editor choice on Epilogue. Anyway the response I get here is much more potent than Epilogue. Not that I will leave Epilogue...but the lack of reponse from that site is discouraging. Are you going to try out for their Master's of fantasy?? I am going to submit the ruby piece and a few others....and don't feel jealous over the 6 hour thing...she is very small about 5x7!
Great to talk to you again!!

Yes, this site does seem much more active than epilogue. I really like it and I am just amazed at how many really good artists are here!
I don't understand why you never got an 'editors choice' at epilogue! Ah, well, I never did either, so I don't feel so bad now. And to answer your question, I'm not going to submit to their Master's of Fantasy. I think it might interfere with my licensing so in this case it's better to be safe than sorry!

Wow... $5? You should look around for other places to sell your art. Onyl my art teacher painted a beautiful surrealist painting that he plans to sell for around £200ish over here. And compared to some of your work it's somewhat degraded! Still I suppose you're selling prints and ot the actual article...
Anyhow. Very lovely. The colouring is very intense; you can almost feel it radiating warmth x)
Excellent job. ~

This is very beautiful. I love the shades of orange and red. It's always a very soothing, warm combination. And thanks for mentioning how you drew her! I use colored pencil from time to time, but for some reason I never thought to use paint with them, I'm going to have to try that out!
