Description
A commission piece. She is 5x7, so relatively small compared to most of my other pieces. This is also the first of many this size...just trying out new things for conventions...price wise.7/7/05: Just tweaked her a little...added some more yellows and blended a bit better. She is on the "backside" of charcole paper...in case anyone wanted to know.
90% colored pencil...prismacolors is the brand. The other 10% is acrylic, mostly to pop out the white highlights on her hair and to deepen the reds a bit. I used tempra on her face (white highlights only) because I can color pencil over that once it dries. (Only if I made the highlight overly bright.) I thin down the tempra to pretty much water. Then I go in with a itty bitty brush and play around with the highlight. I am selling the prints of this piece for about 5$ at Conventions...because my normal sized prints run about 15-20$ and some people get all snooty about that for some reason. At least now they can walk away with something. I am trying out bookmarks as well.

She's really beautiful. I love how her wings and some of the other details look like ironwork. Her eyes are really captivating. The skin on her arm looks a bit too orange, though, in comparison with her overall more pinkish face.

Awesome!
The wings look a bit flat IMHO, but the shadings in the skin and specially the hair look great. I like the pose a lot too, such a strong look in her eyes

This is truly amazing. I love how soft and smooth her skin looks. It's almost as if I could reach out and touch her and fell her silky skin. The details in her wings and her hair are awesome. Oh how I wish I could use colored pencils like that.

I wonder what medium was used... oil pastels? Still, its quite amasing how you can achieve such soft skin tones and volumetric notions with natural media.. its so faithful hat one can almost touh it.. and yet, the fantasy elemments of the picture are so lively, so rich in color! The yellow bits on the bright red hair and wings really give this piece a fiery glow.. I think its a wonderful portion of all the beautiful pieces you achieve.. which is a nice option for those who can't afford the full scale ones..!

I just took a look at the piece again and noticed it "does" look like oil pastels...so odd. I actually used colored pencils for most of the piece, with some acrylic on the hair and red parts that were not vibrant enough for me.
I think I will go ahead and edit the description to include my media..normally I always do, but I keep forgetting that many people do not realize I work in primarily colored pencils...
prismacolors..is the name of the brand I use.

And this is all done with traditional media. usually I would think that it would have been done very convincingly in Photoshop, since folks are so digital nowadays. You're quite a talent with traditional medias to create this. And I love it especially because of the fiery hues. Reds and golds are always pleasing to my eyes. This reminds me of Amy Brown's art. I love hers and yours equally. *shakes fist* Clash of the watercolour and mixed media artists!

I did this with colored pencils and a little acrylic....the price for the little prints will be only about 5 bucks(I need them to walk away with something in their hands!)

What kind of time are you putting in on these though? That one looked like it would take awhile, despite the size, maybe make prints and sell those instead?

Oh the original belongs to the client...the prints will be the 5$...and she only took me about 6 hours to do. So not that long!
