Cool! The picture is a little blurry what makes the time seem passing even faster...

maiderbee In reply to RainFeatherDream [2016-06-04 11:41:17 +0000 UTC]
Thank you so much! That's probably because I moved one of the channels quite a bit. In fact, I debated with myself whether to do it or not, as it does blur it and I wasn't sure if that would help the picture. But I like your point about time passing even faster, blurring something seems to make it look more dynamic, more like movement, I guess.

So true (: Also it's interesting that the fish doesn't show a sign of fear, maybe because it's a fish, but I think it's more like he doesn't really see what awaits him in the end. And the most philosophical part: When we would be in the place of that fish, we wouldn't see it either.
And no problem at all
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
maiderbee In reply to Kathaja [2016-06-04 11:28:43 +0000 UTC]
Good point about the fish not showing fear! Honestly I didn't think about it, but your take on it is quite interesting and made me think a lot. You are right, we know what is coming but usually we are so focused in the banality of our lives that we lose focus on the bigger picture. We even believe ourselves invincible when young. But it is a good thing, not knowing, or else I feel I would lose my mind over it.
Ugh, this is becoming depressing So, what kind of face would a frightened fish make, I wonder...

no problem! there's so much philosophical nonsense i could pertain to this awesomness xD

maiderbee In reply to aspireArtFreak [2016-06-03 19:25:39 +0000 UTC]
Would you mind sharing some of your nonsense? I really want to know what people think about it, since in this artwork I put more importance on the idea rather than the style. I wanted it to be pretty straightforward but still there are so many interpretations possible. That's the beautiful thing about art, I guess.

aspireArtFreak In reply to maiderbee [2016-06-04 05:02:18 +0000 UTC]
I'd love to share nonsense xD
The way that I interpreted it, was in a pretty simple obvious way. The goldfish needs the water to survive and the water is slowly running out. apply this to our more unnecessarily complicated lives, It could mean that our time is running out and we should enjoy this while we can.
It could also mean in a slightly more complex way that since the water, the thing the fish needs most is running out; We are using up all our resources and killing our planet and that we may not know it now, but eventually it will come back to bite us in the ass. Like the gold fish, we're living obliviously for now, but once the water, or the natural resources of our planet runs out... we're doomed.
but like you said there can be many interpretations. I wonder what you had in mind while creating this piece?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
maiderbee In reply to aspireArtFreak [2016-06-04 11:37:32 +0000 UTC]
That's totally it. It's a complete analogy between the water and life, both for the fish as an individual and for the planet in the bigger picture. Nailed it!
At first I just wanted to talk about the inevitability of death, but then I started thinking about balance and the processes of life in nature. When I had the whole thing finished I noticed that the water or life energy that is leaving the goldfish is not disappearing from the clock, in fact, it's just changing its location, adjusting to something new. It's kind of a cycle.
Hehe, just interpretations, they are all right and fun!

aspireArtFreak In reply to maiderbee [2016-06-04 12:03:14 +0000 UTC]
That's quite beautiful. The cycle thing I mean. I hadn't even thought of that. You know it's really rare to find someone so open to philosophical interpretations.

maiderbee In reply to aspireArtFreak [2016-06-04 18:05:03 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, sometimes we tend to be a little bit shallow but well, I am an art student and we have been learning about conceptual art this last semester, in fact I had the idea for this while studying for that exam. It's amazing how much thought goes into a single artwork, some of them are so interesting and thought-provoking, but art should be that. Art should always convey an emotion or an idea and while the artist does the piece, it is the viewer who finishes it with his/hers interpretation.

aspireArtFreak In reply to maiderbee [2016-06-04 18:22:58 +0000 UTC]
That's exactly how i see it as well. Art is always an expression of oneself. And yeah! it is amazing how intricate some artists design their artworks to be. whether it be subconscious or not, I usually always think there can be different meanings to the work. You know what i mean?
That's an awesome way of thinking. That last sentence. poetic even. "Art should always convey an emotion or an idea and while the artist does the piece, it is the viewer who finishes it with his/hers interpretation."
you seem really cool. ^_^

maiderbee In reply to aspireArtFreak [2016-06-04 18:39:53 +0000 UTC]
Hahaha, thank you! Well, that's what you get after being for three years in Art School, they brainwash you(kidding!), but they do make you rethink a thing or two about art in general. There is a general consensus that art should be pretty, and I used to think that as well, but now I really feel it should move people's hearts, not just look good. It's easier said than done, though.
Now I can appreciate modern art better, most of it is very conceptual, based on the idea more than anything. However, there are still some pieces that I find complete garbage.
That sentence is something artist Marcel Duchamp said, more or less, or that is what our teacher told us. I always found it so nice that I made it my own, hehe.
You are really cool too, is not easy to have this kind of conversations with anyone.
And sorry about my English, I feel like I am writing quite long so my mistakes should be glaring, by this point.

Your english is fine! and you're right! It's not easy to have conversations like this with most people.
I don't know about modern art though. I usually cant appreciate them as much as i'd like to.
I'm trying to get into art school actually! do you have any tips or advice for me?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
maiderbee In reply to aspireArtFreak [2016-06-05 22:34:42 +0000 UTC]
It's still hard for me to understand some modern art works too, even with my three years of academic experience.
Good luck with getting into art school! In my country, art school is another career that you can study in the university and you have to pass some university entrance exams to enter, including subjects such as maths, history, literature, english...and they also test your skills with drawing anatomy and perspective.
I didn't do the drawing exams because I was already in uni being a med-student when I decided to leave everything behind and embrace an art career -I did biology and chemistry ones instead-.
I don't know about other countries, but I think having a good portafolio should be important. Try to draw as much as you can, specially the human body. Do a lot o quick sketches so your brain starts connecting with your hand better and faster. And really, just enjoy it, it will show!

Thank you! That's crazy cause I was a med student too!!! I'm doing the same thing you did. i'm leaving everything behind and doing art. I'm not very good yet but I'm trying.
A lot of sketches of the human body. okay got it! thanks so much!

maiderbee In reply to aspireArtFreak [2016-06-06 14:10:08 +0000 UTC]
Really? Then I trully hope you succeed and get into Art School. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot. And don't worry about not being very good, none os us was at the beggining. Only practice and repetition can make you better. Once you have the passion and the training, everything else will eventually come into place.

i have a question about the portfolios. In your opinion is it better to have more sketches or more finished artworks in it?
