Summary I
A new beginning

Six years and eight months passed since the Skylian Blitz. Although, Shepard remembered it as it was yesterday.
The time changed him. Shepard became cold, ruthless and aloof. As a soldier, He became a deadly fighter and a tactic professional with an untainted service record, an awarded war hero, the example every soldier wanted to follow. He even had a memorial statue in Ellysium.
But he didn't recognize that man. In his mind, he wasn't a hero at all. Much less a role model.

After his anual visit to the Ellysium's graveyard during his first shore leave in years, his superior, the captain David Anderson called him. The captain said he had important news to share with his subordinated, so he asked him to travel to the Arcturus Station, where the Alliance military force was based.

A couple of days later, Shepard met captain Anderson in his office on Arcturus Station. Anderson told him that he was asigned as the new captain of the SSV Normandy, in replacement of the commander Elli Zander, and he asked the admiralty board to assign Shepard as his executive officer.

As far as he knew, the Normandy was a masterpiece of engineering, co produced by the Alliance and the turian hierarchy, with the support of the Citadel council. A frigate unique in its class, prepared to deal with missions in deep space. Shepard accepted, because he knew it was the oportunity of a lifetime, and the captain ordered him to report for duty the next morning.

When Anderson declared the meeting ended, the loudspeakers of the station started to call him by name with urgency. The captain left Shepard in his office and ran to the command center, where his presence was requested.

A couple of hours later, when Shepard was in the common dining room of the station having dinner, he overheard what happened. A man with vrolik syndrom, who was a shuttle pilot in the station, stole the normandy from it's deck and completed the flying test course provided for the next moring, without a mistake. Even when the officer in charge send fighters to take down the vessel, the exceptional pilot dodged every single projectile and returned to the station with the frigate intact.

Instead of taking him under custody for the theft, Anderson himself and the turian embassador responsable for overseeing the test course, assigned the young thief as the new flight lieutenant of the Normandy.

That was the first time Shepard heard the name of the new pilot. Jeff "Joker" Moreau.
