Oh look, a new Starlights drawing!
What’s going on here this time? The mom of the family, Flare Starlight, is helping her eldest son Star, who has dyslexia, with reading. As a dyslexic myself, this is a concept that I’ve wanted to bring to life for a really long time. Despite doing really well in my history, science, and especially math classes, Accelerated Reading was always the one class in school that I struggled horribly with, mostly with how slow my speed was and how I would mispronounce and misread quite easily, on top of spelling errors. It’s something that I really wish was talked about more often when I was in school rather than the education system here in America doing nothing to help with it (and disabilities/disorders in general) and just pushing it off to the side, expecting every student to function in one same way. Hell, because of that mentality from the system, it took me until the very end of my junior year in high school to finally look into why I always performed the worst with this one particular class throughout my entire school life and get my dyslexia diagnosis. *sighs* This country’s always such a big pain…Related drawings (some more Star and Flare art):
