Tools: 8B, 6B, 2B, HB, B, 6H, 3H pencils + a white paint pen
Who? 左迅 (Satoshi), vocalist of J-metal band ギルガメッシュ(Girugamesh).

Comments: He looks scarier than the reference picture. T-T
Wow ok, this sucks balls. I still need to practice pencil.
(I totally BSed the last half of his cloak mask as you can all tell.)
I know there's a lot of things OFF, but I'm not perfect. XD
The right side of his hair near his eye is a little flat, sorry.

You did what? Oh my Lord. I laughed so hard when you said you fridged it. *face palm* It's k, I actually read the container before I put it back into my cupboard. LMao. <3 Just kidding with you. Seeing as how we fridge jelly and peanut butter, I guess that's why you'd think that. Now you know! I hope it thaws out alright. I never fridged it so I don't know how the outcome would be. Some things are never the same again after a night of fridging. >_> 'Cause the liquid freezed and then unfreezes can turn it all watery.

Anyways, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I'd do a flying hug but we don't live near each other. Eh, iono..the more I look at it the more I want to throw up on it. Ok, well I am happy with the eyes at least! There. I like something about it. ;D Thanks again for the comment. At least you gave me feedback! Very appreciated. The hair was not fun to do on the right side where the light is shining on it. >_> Now I know the pains of a pencil artist. Digital is easy as just flick a lighter color on it and it'd turn into pure strands over the darker background but traditional...very meticulous.

And I even looked for directions on the Nutella bottle and missed it when it says: DO NOT REFRIGERATE.
Ehhhh; you're not supposed to refrigerate peanut butter? At least I leave my peanut butter in the cupboard...> u < LOL, the Nutella was like chocolate when it was frozen. Or like hard fudge. Ehhh, hopefully it's ohkay Q A Q;;

No problem at all (:
I'm honored to have seen the WIP.
Ahahahaha -virtual hug-
Yes, the eyes are good! Stick with the positive [although I think the whole thing is amazing]!
EHHHH, DIGITAL IS WAYYY HARDER THAN TRADITIONAL [other than the fact that there's an undo button].
Your traditional works are so nice; I would've never guessed you were a digital artist if you never said it.

MakaiAsh In reply to ColorfulSensibility [2010-10-03 19:45:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, I fridge peanut butter at home since certain peanut butters need to be fridged. Others don't and can be left out. At the dorms I don't use peanut butter so no need to worry about that. But that's interesting that the Nutella turned into hard fudge. Sounds good regardless if it hardened or not. XD 'Cause it's NUTELLA.

I feel traditional is harder than digital. You have to do everything manually. Photoshop, the tools do it for you. Nowadays if you notice people create photo realistic portraits on photoshop but when they do pencil portraits, it looks like cartoon characters drawn by 5 year olds. (And I really am serious it looked like that.) That's why I concluded, traditional is forgotten and not many know how to handle both mediums.

Ahahaha XD
I should get Nutella and put them in little molds so that when I freeze them, they'll be like chocolates.
Delicious (;

I'm so worried about traditional artists; you don't see many successful painters selling their work as they used to. Everything is digital now D:
And that is why I'm going to take Multimedia and Painting/Drawing for the rest of my high school life >:'D

OMG, that's such a good idea. Do that! I swear. I want to do that too. XD

Yeh, I feel people are forgetting where their roots lie. I mean seriously right? Even you notice. Yes, definitely take that class! Good to take the initiative. :3

This is amazing. I was waiting for you to finish this just because I knew the end result would be great. You have an awesome style. I think it looks great. :3 The shading is awesome. I should get my self a white paint pen since it does wonders for you :3.

MakaiAsh In reply to ryukaya [2010-10-02 19:31:35 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thank you. <3 I still think it sucks bad. XD But yes, paint pens can be convenient. Haha, the problem with the white paint pen is it doesn't really go the way you like since graphite and white paint do not mix. It'll just kind of slip everywhere and also the tip can be thick so you got to be real fast and hardy touch the paper. At least that's how I did it. I tried using the white gel pen but I still can't find a decent one. The gel pen I have can't even mark on the paper. It all depends on your ref though. In my next drawing, I won't bother with a paint pen but instead just draw in the strands myself. Which can be torture. Haha. Yep yep.

ryukaya In reply to MakaiAsh [2010-10-03 15:17:52 +0000 UTC]

It looks great. Trust me. :3 LOL! I shall take that advice! I understand what a mess it could be. If I find a good one that doesn't give you the hard labor of mess, I'll definitely tell you. Haha. I usually just draw in strands too. I think it did a nice effect on Satoshi though. Pen of great torture! haha. XD I wonder what paper it would take to more too.

O_O I can't stop staring into his eyez. Goodness~ maybe I'm just procrastinating on my online quiz. JKJK~ Nice~ you really captured that depth of intensity in his eyes. I seriously get caught in them the moment I lay my own on the drawing. (Dx Which makes for navigating back to my messages a pain. I'll probably end up sitting here, staring at it until tomorrow) <3 Sugee~

The eye...of DEATH. J/k j/k. Wow, I swear...I don't know how I made his stare scarier than the real person. *face palm* Either way, thank you so much. *huggles* I will have your INORAN ready in no time. Ok, nvm, I won't make any promises seeing as how I never fulfilled that long list of requests before. *sigh*

*COVERS IT* No more staring. Reminds me of the first Sims, one of my friends made his character stare at a satellite dish outside for the longest time...and finally the satellite fell on him...and he died. You don't want that now do you? XD

Painted-Skies In reply to ??? [2010-10-01 23:24:56 +0000 UTC]

does not suck at all.

I love this, i like the roughness and all the detail you can see around the eye and the nose, also all the strands of hair. The intensity of the black is amazing. I also love how you did the fold in his mask.

it's awesome hun.

MakaiAsh In reply to Painted-Skies [2010-10-01 23:26:26 +0000 UTC]

Aw *hugs*. Thank you. I personally at times want to get it smoother but it's hard to do since the paper has texture and softer pencils tend to clump on the paper. DX

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Painted-Skies In reply to MakaiAsh [2010-10-02 01:12:38 +0000 UTC]

ah, i can imagine how that must get annoying >.<, for this drawing though, the texture of the paper works. The roughness fits the style real well ^^

<3

I see what you mean, but don't completely switch-off digital! You don't realize how unique your digital portraits are, compared to the other artists.

By the way, you got me excited again. This is Satoshi's fierceness in the early grunge days. Loving it. ;3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MakaiAsh In reply to hedspace77 [2010-09-04 22:42:43 +0000 UTC]

Hah. Of course I won't ever totally switch off digital! Aw, that's so nice of you to say. Thank you. I'm not sure if I view my own portraits as unique compared to others though I do notice there's an influx of digi artists nowadays and they all just basically copy the ref. Makes me disappointed. I mean, they all look awesome but I don't see technique in it. Seeing as how digi portraits are harder to show technique in comparison to traditional. yet it's also easier for digi artists to manipulate things so I feel they should try at least. Digital has that advantage at times. But yeh, I plan to try out doing trad for awhile this time. Gotta remember our roots!!

Hah. School started so I couldn't finish. Yes, his fierce look. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Nimerta In reply to ??? [2010-09-02 03:14:21 +0000 UTC]

Aww, are you only switching because there are too many digital artists? XD Not that I'm complaining, traditional art's my favourite x]
And I really really like it so far, especially the outline of the hair, and that section of the bangs you've shaded. The bridge of his nose looks a little flat, but of course, this is still a WIP, right? :]
I can't wait to see the results! x]

His eye looks so angry. >: |
I never have the patience to work with pencil because I always end up smudging the whole image by accident. In the end, the whole image ends up looking fuzzy and my entire right hand has somehow dyed itself black. So I admire this a lot.

And when I think of Girugamesh, I can't help but think of this. [link]

you know you will improve and progress over time so dont worry too much. you are good being you dont do traditional work that much.

i agree it is too many digtial artist i think because people tend to think that its alot you can do digitially more quickly without having some prior knowledge of how to work with pencil and paper!!

which is why people fall short but i like exploring all of it.. i think every one should

MakaiAsh In reply to BOYKINS [2010-08-30 16:41:49 +0000 UTC]

<3 Exactly. I totally agree. People seriously should not forget where it all started from.
I feel many nowadays can draw beautiful digital portraits but suck at handling traditional.
I don't want to fall into that category though so here I am.

It's good you're exploring. I admire that. ;D

Hm on a random note, I remember when I was really into j-rock and visual kei, I still love them, of course, just that sometimes I need to be careful of which pictures I look at because a number of visual kei bands can be very intense. As is some bands can scare the crap out of me TT.TT

MakaiAsh In reply to garibenROCK [2010-08-28 23:06:03 +0000 UTC]

Man do I agree w/ you. Some pics scare me too. Like the real hard core visual kei stuff. *shivers* I can't look at that. Some sound good but when I see how they look like, it's a major turn off. I feel ya there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

garibenROCK In reply to MakaiAsh [2010-08-29 01:53:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, like there are bands where I like the music, but I just CAN'T look at them or watch their mvs because it's way too creepy for me. Like if they are in a barren hallway where the walls are bleeding blood and the lights are flickering and suddenly some grudge shit pops out at me, I can't take that LOL

But yeah, there are other bands that can look real good if it's not too hardcore, in a way I think some of them look pretty elegant and suave ahaha
