Description
Drawing No.2 for Jurassic June....The strange pterosaur from the early Jurassic of Europe, Dimorphodon macronyx (Two Form Tooth big claw), described by Sir Richard Owen, the one who in the 1840s came up with the term “Dinosauria” for everybody’s favorite extinct reptiles, had a big saurian-looking head with toothy jaws, making it one of the pterosaurs you wouldn’t try smiling at....yet the fenestrae on its snout were huge for any pterosaur, and huge for any diapsid reptiles in general as well..and in life Dimorphodon’s face would have also been brightly colored too. It was an active predator of dragonflies, arthropods, small reptiles and other small morsels in a wooded envorenomet with coastal and riverine influences. And whether it was capable of flight or that it was a very weak flier that relied on gliding and climbing on trees because of the weight of its head is up for you all to decide...

I remember these pterosaurs from Jurassic World. I heard they’re poor flyers of their time. Is that true? Also could pterosaurs of different species coexist peacefully with one another like the pteranodon and dimorphodon in the movie?

Recent research indicates that Dimorphodon was a poor flier, and that it would have been more of an arboreal predator instead. Also most pterosaurs did not exist peacefully with one another; they were separated by geological time and era. For example Dimorphodon belonged tot eh early Jurassic, and pteranodon belonged tot he late Cretaceous. But in the early Cretaceous of Brazil so many kinds of impressive pterosaurs coexisted peacefully with one another, such as Tupandactylus and Tropegnathus.
