Description
In the 1950s the Archanian Army launched an experimental program to develop an advanced tracked terrestrial vehicle capable of protecting troops in Arctic warfare. The specifications called for a total length of 10 meters, a width of 5 meters, and a height of 5 meters, very wide tracks for trading through snow or ice, a powerful engine at the front, and enough space in the interior capable of holding a maximum force of up to 20 soldiers. Posts for machine-gunners were positioned on the top at both the front and back. The vehicle was also supposed to have an internal heating system for warming the engine as well as for keeping everyone warm in the interior. Emergency exits were to be located at both the top and sides of the vehicle, and a large door for entering and exiting the vehicle was to be found at the back. Once those specifications were issued for the Arctic Cruiser Programme, as the project was called, manufacturers Holkan, Asāra, and Jerdus all submitted prototypes to the Armaments Office of the Archanian Department of Defense, which initiated the program in the first place, and in the end Holkan’s design won. The Arctic Cruiser Program would also provide inspiration for the Archanian Institute of Space Research’s aims to develop a versatile tracked vehicle which could provide comfort for humans exploring planets with somewhat hostile conditions.
