Map Making Tutorial for Beginners (Phase I)
Phase I of my FeralHeart Map Making Tutorial is complete. This is a very easy to follow, step by step, picture-based instructional Guide that describes in vivid detail every process needed in order to build a custom map from scratch using the Photoshop-like image manipulation program called GIMP.
This Tutorial includes the Following
Instructions for creating a Basic Heightmap Breakdown of a Greyscale Cartography, how it works, and how to use it Instructions for creating your Alpha Maps/Terrain Mask Instructions on how to apply Textures Instructions on how to add custom objects and water to your terrainA Various number of personal tips and tricks I have learned over the course of 11/2 Years while making a total of 37 custom maps, (This includes Personal Maps, RP Based Pack and Clan Maps, a Private love nest and little getaways) for many different FeralHeart Users.
This Tutorial is designed to be viewed using Windows Live Photo Gallery, but it should work find with any image viewing program you decided to use.

in one of the later phases i will add that ^__^ there are multiple phases to this tutorial. phase 1 is just the intro phase for beginner's to get a handle on the basics of map making in general ^^
if you were interested in learning how to add custom music tracks to your maps. I would be happy to create you a short tutorial explaining how to do that. its really no trouble at all ^_^

it took me a while to put it all together. i was taking screenshots and then pasting them to a new file in gimp and then editing the image to add the instructions for each page. as a matter of fact the map you see me creating in the tutorial will also be included in the rest of my tutorials. (phase 2) of my map making tutorial will be released very soon.
as my tutorials progress so will the island map itself. it just makes things easier for anyone that will want to follow along with me step by step.

hehe it really doesn't take that much time friend. if you take your time and read everything very carefully it may take you around 2 hours. to have your map ready for objects.
if you follow along with the page by page instructions in this tutorial and perform he task it shows on each page, by the time the you complete the tutorial you will have created your first map and will be ready to apply the objects to your terrain.
and if you ever need any kind of extra advice before my other tutorials are released. please by all means. send my a note here on DA and i will help you in any way i can =^-^=

this is my very first tutorial for feralheart map making, i spent upwards of a month writing down what i knew and organizing the tutorial before spending nearly a week just in proofreading and editing the material before i finally released this to the public.
I created this tutorial because I can remember what it was like in my first days of map making when i had no idea what anything was. i had honestly never heard of the *GIMP* program before and had no experience at all with *Photoshop* i was completely lost and confused. So.. i decided to teach map making the same way i teach music and tailored my tutorial around a newly beginning map makers frame of mind.
I did everything i could to make this tutorial as structured and as easy to follow as i possibly could. filling its pages with picture based step by step instructions, as well as a number of customized graph's, personal tips, tricks, and detailed information that would hopefully leave no subject un-addressed, and nothing related to its pertaining material in question by the reader
ty so much for your kind words <3 to have another map maker especially someone of your skill and caliber say that they would defiantly use my tutorial as a reference if they were a beginner means the world to me.
i am currently working on a new map pack that includes newly renovated versions of all my current public maps and will include two totally new maps that i have almost completed.
