Description
This is not an entry in the contest, I've just included it as an example....Created using Ultrafractal.
Back to a "normal" escape time Julia fractal.
This is really just to show that there's still room for "trippy" fractals
21/02/2010:
Just to add that the relevant line from the song is:
"Cellophane trees and marmalade skies"
3/12/2011 Submitted to the "Milestone" contest as this is my first image here that's not a daily deviation to reach 70,000 views and 80,000 downloads.
This image is now to be used on the cover of "Kiss the Sky" by Denise Galin - previously known as "Woman in the Sky" and surprisingly on the cover of an Austrian medical magazine (because of something about the original Lucy who inspired the song).

Dude this picture is great! Hey, I'm doing a project for school, if I credit you could I use this picture?

As long as it's just for school and you include credit to myself and the URL's for my deviantart pages and my own website then that's fine.

This is amazing. Just so you know this shows up on the first page when you do a google image search of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" This is a great piece of art.

Thanks very much.
I'd guessed that it must be high on Google given the number of views and downloads
Now all I need is a record company or Beatles biographer or whatever to request licensed use of the image

this is really amazing,
i did not know you could do this with fractals.
regards,

Thanks - you can do all sorts of things with fractals (even less abstract stuff, see [link] )

i haven't the slightest about how fractals really work, but this is crazy fun. like a visual explosion of music.

Thanks, when you get chance try the trial version of Ultrafractal and find out !
Alternatively try Fractal Explorer - that's freeware I think.

wow, this is wild... i don't get how u made this.
there's always room for trippy fractals.

Thanks - mainly I played around with "difference" merge mode, it works well for "trippy" colourings.

MakinMagic In reply to MakinMagic [2007-07-20 00:21:06 +0000 UTC]
The more technical bit was the choice of colouring formulas
I also spent at least 40 minutes just playing with the gradients to get it to look "right".
It reminds me of the cartoon from the Beatles film (the Blue Meanies sequence).

haha! difference explains a lot, i like to use it too for its unpredictable and trippy results. this looked more tecnically made, though.

Truly trippy! I keep thinking some of the features are resolving into something vaguely recognisable, then they just go ahead and don't

Trippy fractals are the best. I gotta make one myself. The last one I did was months ago. Great colors and composition on this ^^

This one is GREAT!! I have not tried ultrafractal yet; plan to though. If this is what it can turn out when combined with a creative mind, then I'm really looking forward it.

Thanks very much.
UF is pretty much the ultimate fractal software for escape-time fractals - there's a slightly steeper learning curve than with other fractal software simply due to the potential complexity and sheer number of formulas and colourings available but IMHO it's worth the effort (and the money).
