Description

When Link found himself in this new world, everything that was on his person at the time had come with him, including his sword. This was a relief to him, at first; however, he quickly found that carrying large, conspicuous weapons around the city was, to say the least, pretty frowned upon. His surrogate family had to explain to him that it was because weapons were largely unnecessary for regular civilians, especially children, and so anyone who walked around with one was considered suspicious and potentially dangerous. Link, having come from a society where carrying a sword was a mark of honor—a rite of passage, even—was pretty offended by this, and didn’t like the idea of walking around without it after having it for so long. But it couldn’t really be helped, and he didn’t want to cause his caretakers any trouble, so he kept the sword mostly to his room while out and about.

Fortunately, those rules didn’t apply to the Lockharts’ back yard. So long as he kept the sword on the property and didn’t disturb anybody, they allowed him to practice with it as often as he wished. The neighbors, at first, found it a bit strange that a kid like him had managed to not only get ahold of such a thing but also knew how to use it, and it served as a conversation topic for a little while. That was the worst to come of it, however, and eventually it became just a routine part of the day.
