The very first Bomberman game I played was Mega Bomberman, rented at a video store every once in a great while. I technically own said game on Wii Virtual Console, but in its original PC Engine format "Bomberman '94."
I wasn't able to decipher whether these guys were labeled as "Louies" or "Rooeys," so I compromised and watched a video from Team Bulge Bomb instead.
On a tangent, I never played "Bomberman Fantasy Race."

Interesting, because I actually have played Bomberman Fantasy Race. Although I do find myself having a rough time figuring out how to actually play the game, and what the menu options are supposed to do.
Also, I think there's some kangaroo in there given how large they're portrayed.

I've debated whether I should get the game, as I've heard some folks that have played it say it's fairly decent.
I'd think they were kangaroos, though it seems they're not always portrayed as very big. Jetters seemed to make them smaller.

It's less than $10 on the PlayStation Store if I remember correctly. I downloaded it to see if it to see if it was worth a try. From what I can tell, there's absolutely no localized voice acting what so ever, which makes things a bit more difficult in my case. Probably not so much for you.

I'm not fully versed in the series myself, though Bomberman is in my list of "Games I enjoy despite being terrible at them." I may give Fantasy Race a go when I get the chance.

Got it yesterday, been playing it on and off. It's a decent little game.
Not entirely sure what you found lousy about the control scheme; I got used to it after three or four attempts. I've mostly been trying to adjust my strategies and timing now.

It isn't terrible. I end up holding X most of the time while occasionally holding up for boosts on straightaways. And I'm trying to get the hang of wall-jumps and that odd bomb-boost trick.

Yeah, that was it. Trying to get those wall jumps can either make or break the race you're in. At least in my case it does.
