Description
Made a Flipnote Studio animation. It features a simple Sketch Tucker confronting the famed puzzle cube. How does he solve it?The true animation has music with vocal sound effects. This version only has the music; it is "Panpipe Polka" by Frank Comedes.
I'm not too happy with how the cube motion went, but therwise it turned out okay.

Ohhhh, I see what you're talking about.
When you create a Flipnote and export it as a GIF, it only transfers the images. There's no way I'm aware of that exports the sound as well.
The music I used for my actual Flipnote was replicated here, but I couldn't reproduce the sounds accurately.

How are you able to save music here. When I try to do that with my flipnote for here, it's always soundless!

MalamiteLtd In reply to MoonbowDragon [2011-01-01 15:04:27 +0000 UTC]
Simply put, I put it in Flash and added the music through there. I think it typically exports Flipnotes as GIF images rather than true video, so it can't save sound.
To note, the actual flipnote has sound effects as well as the music.

The idea of being able to see into the future for a few seconds? That sounds like a good idea for a gimmick in one of your and NS's games!

It took about three days, although if I did it nonstop it probably would take a day.
And yes, I wasn't expecting so much from the program. It's no wonder why so many consider this the best reason to own a DSi.

I was going to say he's cheating but you've already explained that requires some thought. He does that pretty fast. Are the Tokarus some kind of super thinkers?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MalamiteLtd In reply to NS-Games [2009-09-09 16:59:26 +0000 UTC]
Well, they are pretty intelligent. But I wouldn't call them super thinkers. The Tokarus have a sense that, with some focus, lets them see the immediate future within a certain extent. They analyze what happens when they make certain moves or choices and make their decisions from there. (This is also a handy defense tactic, as it's able to sense an opponent's next move).
But it takes practice to do this accurately, and also needs a good amount of focus. Pushing their focus could help them see what could happen close to 30 seconds from present time.

But to pick up a Rubik's Cube and solve it just like that. To solve one takes a series of complex algorithms. Which makes me think either he's solved the puzzle once before and was able to remember the algorithm, or there's some sort of super thinking going on.
Thirty seconds doesn't seem like a whole lot, but it sounds very handy in a fight. Sounds like the only problem is that it would be very hard to focus during an actual fight though.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MalamiteLtd In reply to NS-Games [2009-09-10 05:58:11 +0000 UTC]
I think he already knew how to solve it. I'm sure he did a lot of practicing to move it all so fast, let alone with his mind.
And yes, thirty seconds isn't really much, but its reliability is above average. You must realize that the distant future holds virtually infinite possibilities. The immediate future's probabilities are a little more limited, and the sooner the future is, the more likely certain things will happen. So a Tokaru is more certain of what will happen in one second than they would in, say, five. Their senses are what makes them realize what WILL happen out of all that COULD happen.
And sensing what will happen next helps them prepare a proper defense, which makes Sketch *seem* quick, when he really isn't.

NS-Games In reply to MalamiteLtd [2009-09-10 06:13:59 +0000 UTC]
Heh, he should try and teach me how to solve it some time then. I've been trying to solve one all day with very little luck. Had to use a solver program to help me.
I'm reminded of that early draft of The Tengu Company you had posted on your old website. One of the last chapters posted I remember him getting a bit cocky when asked by Sensei Kazano to do a training exercise. In which he sends the rest of The Tengu Company to attack Sketch all at once. And if I recall properly nobody could even touch him. Which I'm thinking is where that technique came into play.
I'm just wondering if that would be a proper example. Also, if I remembered that correctly I have way too good a memory because I only read that one time.

MalamiteLtd In reply to NS-Games [2009-09-10 18:14:16 +0000 UTC]
In the newer version he has to deal with Kazuya's situation, causing him to be absent for a few days of training. Sensei Kazano questioned this, and Sketch seemed to think it was more important; he didn't think he needded much training regarding the "basics." Upset, Kazano decided to test/punish Sketch for it by fighting him in a one-on-one battle. But much like the older version Sketch beat him handily. And yes, his sense of immediate prediction was a major cause.
I used YouTube to teach me some of the algorythms. After a little practice (about a day's worth) I began to solve it relatively quickly. With help from my handy "speed cube" from PUZL, I can get one solved somewere between 2-3 minutes. I understand there is a more advanced method to cut that time down further, but I'm content with just solving the stupid thing. :3

NS-Games In reply to MalamiteLtd [2009-09-10 19:11:45 +0000 UTC]
I remember he didn't understand what it was that gave him that capability at first, which is why Sensei Kazano suggested he look for his grandfather, Dan Tuker, and where Sketch first realized he was a possible legend.
The Dan Brown tutorial? I tried his, but he went way too fast with the movements. If I could even solve it on my own, I agree, that would be great.

MalamiteLtd In reply to NS-Games [2009-09-10 19:37:25 +0000 UTC]
Yes, but in this newer one he seems to realize this little talent earlier on. He doesn't suspect there's more to it all until the first time he fights Russell Parallax, where he fires a Tokaru Beam unaware. Russell Parallax retreats, leaving Sketch to wonder what just happened. It's after that incident that he decides to see Dan Tucker about any info.
And yes, I refer to the Dan Brown tutorial. He made it quite easy for me to follow anyway, and the fact that he listed the algorythms in his description helped me study better as well. Again, though, it takes some practice before you get the hang of things.
I've gotten into the twisty puzzles a few months ago after that, eventually buying the "Mirror Blocks" version of the cube, the Pyraminx, and Megaminx. The latter is my favorite, because I managed to learn how to solve it on my own, since I was given the clue that solving it isn't that much different from the cube. It's a little trickier, of course, and takes a while longer...

NS-Games In reply to MalamiteLtd [2009-09-10 19:48:03 +0000 UTC]
Didn't Sketch nearly get killed during that fight? I remember something about him getting stuck by Russell's scythe and only losing his Tengu abilities instead of being destroyed by it.
I still think he went a bit quick with that. I actually found a slower tutorial so I'm giving it a try right now.
You know I once figured out how to solve the Pyraminx puzzle on my own before. But that was about six years ago.

MalamiteLtd In reply to NS-Games [2009-09-11 01:05:31 +0000 UTC]
That's true. But because of what Sketch is, it seemed to prevent himself from being shattered. this I intend to keep in the newer version of the story too. The Tengu powers he receives create a sort of haze over his true Tokaru ability, so while he was a Tengu he couldn't utilize all his abilities. He even realizes that his sense of future foresight isn't so easy to focus on.
The Pyraminx is a pretty easy puzzle. Only four sides, and in reality only six parts truly get mixed. there exist 2x2x2 cubes that are slightly easier than the standard cube, but I estimate they're still a little trickier than the Pyraminx.
So yes! Good luck with the tutorial then! :3

Believe it or not, I've been wanting to ask you about that for a long time now, whether or not that was going to stay part of the story. It's been driving me nuts.
Oh yeah, I agree that's an easy puzzle. I can't really imagine the 2x2x2 one being any harder. That seems more like a beginner's cube more than anything.
Thank you. I'm starting to get the hang of it actually. )
