Description
Got around to drawing the UNMC battlecruiser, the third biggest type of ship in the UNMC fleet. The battlecruiser is designed to be powerful, heavily armored, resilient, and reasonably nimble. For this reason, I made the overall silhouette of the ship thinner than I originally planned, but also the ship is loaded with weaponry. It is the smallest UN vessel capable of arming itself with a Tier 3 Shock Cannon, and also sports two Tier 2 cannons. In fleet engagements, battlecruisers lead initial charges with destroyers and frigates, as more fragile, less maneuverable or more important ships like carriers battleships and cruisers stay farther away.Related content

Hmmm I took a look at the site, if they could actually make something like my design in a game that would be amazing I wonder how I'd even go about contacting them though

Oh well that's the great part, Notch is making the game (creator of Minecraft) aaannnnd we can make our own ships.

Ahh Minecraft, that game has taken over the world as far as I could tell lol, but thank you for showing me this though, I might have to take you up on that offer and see how I can get my ships into this game. Battling with your own ship designs sounds super cool to be able to do.

Looks nice, familiar too. If you're going for a unique look, how about some smaller thrusters in different points along the ship?

I was actually thinking that exact thing, a few of the ships might benefit from some extra thrusters for a little more design.

A craft like that could probably bring frontal weapons to bear against weaker or critical points on larger craft patterned after conventional aircraft long before they can react or evade. Something the size of the Normandy SR-1 could outmaneuver a larger ship and cut right through the main gun or blast apart the bridge if its exposed.

Exactly, that's why the UN ships are so effective in my story. Even the larger ones can react and maneuver surprisingly well, although obviously a frigate would be better at it compared to a ship like this. I don't have the design for the F.A.W. ships up yet, but they fight basically as you described, outmaneuver and stay out of the range of main guns to hit vital points on the target ship.

Cool. I was thinking different directions for the thrust.
People often design spacecraft like atmospheric craft concentrating all the thrusters at the "back" of the ship with the result that it pretty much has to turn around slowly and change heading to face an enemy and control surfaces being useless without air this is harder than it sounds.
But that also means unlike planes, spacecraft can change orientation without changing heading or losing momentum simply by using thrusters located at the right places along the craft's structure. Just my two cents.

That's a good point, you know what's funny is that I had thought of that I began designing these ships too, like what you said about only having thrusters at the back of the ship. Like I want my designs to be realistic as possible so every ship actually has many secondary thrusters planted all over the hull for changing direction in a vacuum and in-atmosphere. So if a ship wanted to stop moving forward in space it will cut power to its rear thrusters and direct all power to the bow thrusters to slow the ship down to either a slow drift or a complete stop. I surprisingly put a lot of thought into little details like that, I guess I'm a nerd like that for my own universe and lore lol.

Thank you! I'm happy you like the design I wish it was a game but its really a part of this comic series that I'm making, I've got a good amount of the first issue on my profile if you're interested and there is a wiki I've been periodically working on for it too

Delicious battlecruisers. Heavy hitters with agility. Usually I prefer a more flat, horizontal style of capital ships (basically the Hiigaran battlecruiser, Homeworld 2) but I don't mind this at all.

It's nice in that I don't know many space games that have this style of capital ship, maybe some designs like in Freespace 2, the Orion battleships.

True that's exactly where I got some of the influence for the general designs, the human cruisers in ME kind of started the whole look. But they look different enough that its not a complete copy or anything which I really tried to avoid.

I think your design have a lot more going for them in terms of height, they get the seize across rather well, better than the purely horizontal design could.

I can definitely see that, size wise they would be closer to the human ships in Halo than in Mass Effect. I want them to look big and intimidating but very interesting and artistic even if they're just drawings you know? If I'm getting the idea across to you then I know its working out pretty well

Well if you look at the newest Sins of a Solar Empire, the Loyalist Titan is kind of like your designs but I think it severely lacks in the interesting design department. [link] It's very much just shapes, so your design would probably have worked better.

Hmm that's an interesting design too, Its definitely different than most ships you see. But I can see what you mean too, like its mostly just three straight lines with the outer 2 being a little curved. It does have a small similarity to the overall design style of my ships though.

I would assume once we are in space more permanently, the ship designs will change a little, but I don't see why it would change that drastically. Science doesn't stop either.

Probably a little bit will change but I think the way sci fi is now has just been engraved into our minds to be a certain way, like most of it has a lot of the same elements to it. I really want to make my universe different though and not have all those cliches.
