Description This is my final piece for my art GCSE, painted over the course of two days (4 hours first day, 5 hours second day).
It's painted using Oil Bars. For those who don't know what that is, it's like oil paint, but in bar form. You can use them like you could use pastels, ie you can smear colour all over, and then smear on more colour, and then use your fingers for bleding in. So much easier to use than paints I think...

Anywhow. Our theme was 'safely contained'. I was first doing some metallic car parts, kinda getting the feeling that they are contained within the car itself, but then my teacher mentioned how I could have some of the rustiness of the car parts blend in to a form that was like a fox... and one thing led to another, and I ended up drawing lots of animals in it

So yeah, enjoy!

(Oh yeah, and some of the colours have been mangled quite spectacularily by my digital camera and its flash... sorry about that)

The overall composition is fantastic and I can't help being drawn to the snarling fox partially hidden by the metal! I really enjoy this piece!

I would have to say... I think the "erratic fox" is much more interesting than car parts.

You deserved an A+ for you're GCSE, thats for sure! I myself received an E for my GCSE, as i didn't do the researching of an artist art history part, or show my idea development - i was just interested in creating 2 final 'masterpieces'. Sadly, both got chucked out before i could claim them from he school, but the theme was 'Opposites', and i remember i did one piece of Marilyn Manson with a thought bubble of a baby (sinister and sweet).

Wow, I really like the feel of this piece. What really stood out to me was you have this quite calm looking fox in one corner of the picture, then all these other fierce images of a predator (I assume they are all fox pictures because that is what they look like to me). Then the title "Safely Contained" and it makes you wonder just how safely the predatorial instincts are contained in a small innocent looking fox. Once again that's just how I'm reading it, but I totally dig this.

Wow, that piece is really strong, it has a fantastic quality to it which I can't quite put my finger on - great stuff! Oil bars sounds interesting, I have been working with oils for around 5 years now and this is the first time i've heard of them - I might have to pick some up next time i'm out.

If you could spare any time at all to look at any of my 19 oil painting deviations I have here: [link] it would be hugely appreciated. Any comments would be fantastic. Thanks in advance.

Heh, I like it. I usually tend not to be happy when a teacher has tried to meddle in a student's artistic endeavors, but you went with it and it did well. Nice job.

How were you NOT going to paint something without animals?
It looks great, I love the different views of the fox, especially the top left, it looks so cute. Very well composed too.
Only thing I'm not so keen on is that there seems to be white/pale lines between some of the parts of the painting that take the focus away from the cool bits.

That, is simpley amaizng! The colors blending, the shapes, and forms..."Safely contained" Seems to not really apply tho O.O...it seems that if anything, you are anything BUT safe around those angry eyes, those flashing fangs...Very striking peice tho.

I think what you were using were called 'Paint Sticks' People in the 2D class at my school use them all the time. I love the full veiw of the fox in the lower right hand corner. He looks so frightened, or at ease. In the other, well.. psycho foxxy...

Paint sticks? Is that what they call them over where you are? For us its Oil Bars, even on the box of them thats what they are called.

I mean, the theme/concept and all... and then, with the colors... You're godly, Malta. Getting so godly.
Everything blends amazingly. I love how shiny everything is. Tons of texture... so chaotic.
I can only express <3 with a fave and prey you get DTF.

until i read your description, i thought all the animals were dead save the one thats in the corner, looking up at the viewer. The rest I thought were stuffed and the lil guy in the corner was next and the title was just a play on words. Glad I decided to read what you wrote first

But still, very good painting. *thumbs up*
