The learning should be never ending! Yay for getting comfortable with technique and brushes, I'm still trying to get there (as much as I love the painting I'm not very good at it) This place could use some couches on beanbags (ahh these oldschool fantasy libraries!) otherwise looks like a nice place to hang out, especially in that nice big window!

You'll get there I'm sure! If there is fun and passion in it then there should be no doubt about it.
Good suggestion! Couches would def make a difference. There is a café here in this library to chill out, it is already rendered and ready but there are a few other pieces to upload before that. Thanks!

Amazing! Reminds me of concept art for Lord of the Ring game, or maybe even the library from Harry Potter.

Thanks I appreciate it! Many of the inspirations for me come from fantasy titles like that they are true classics. There is another classroom I'll be uploading soon and that is the most Harry Potter-ish yet I think haha.

XD
Tényleg? Én vettem észre, hogy problémád lenne velük. xd

Wah so pretty! I love library's! I have to ask, could you possibly make a small turtorial about how you do this?

Thanks! Yep, sure thing! I think I can complie a quick breakdown of how I work.
For this piece I only have like 2 or 3 WIP shots but for Capybara Onsen
I have 11 WIP shots throughout the painting from start to finish so for now I'll make a WIP steps image.
Thank you for the suggestion, it is about time I let you guys know how weird my painting process is. I can make one on interiors also but I'll need a bit more time as I'm soon delving into another scene that needs to be done.

Your welcome!
i do truelly feel like I constantly need to use refrence and better my art. I do a have a lot of trouble with painting, and can never figure out how best to go about it.
So landscape, animal and interior turtorials all help!
plus your artwork is pretty cool!
how long does you art take you? And also what program do you use?
i have an iPad so unfortunaly I can't have photoshop or anything but I like looking at the different options I can have ^^

There is no problem using reference images as long as you know how to use them.
I mean if I say to an artist : "Hey! Please illustrate for me a flux capacitor, thanks!" Then of course the artist will be like "huh?!" My point is, nobody will know how this item looks like until you've seen one, until your brain processed how it looks like, and until you've studied it and implemented it into your visual library.
With that said, references should be used as help for the artist so we can make sure how a specific object looks like. With this we can implement said obejects into our world that we are creating on the canvas realisticly. Honestly this is something one has to practice too and it takes time so don't worry too much just have fun with the process and you're basically all set.
Thanks glad you like 'em! How long it takes? Really depends, if it's commercial work it's usually 3-5 days for one big piece like this one. This is of course riddled with designing, thinking about placement of objects, colors and just to make everything neat and presentable.
For studies sometimes I paint a scene in 3,5 hours sometimes I take my time to delve in deep to learn about how things work in a scene and take a week on just one study. Personal pieces are like this too, sometimes I preferr a quick sketchy thing sometimes I go all out.
I work with Krita! It's a free raster image editor program and it has a lot in common with PS + I think it's the best alternative if you're like me and can't afford PS but want to work with a legitimate program.
I also recommend PaintTool SAI this is a very easy to use program it's quite cheap but the trial version works fine on it's own too if I remember clearly!
ArtRage is something I'd like to buy one day (soon I think I will I can't contain myself), I tested the trial and it really resonated with me, dem traditional tools dang... loved those. Reminded me of Corel painter, alas that is too steep for me also regarding price...
Hope this info helped! ^^

Yeah this helped a lot!
and that is true, with references you have to study, and study a lot. I do that quite a lot with my creatures (that includes humans) but not much on say, plant life, and even less on anything of archicutre or really anything man made. I like to use photos a lot p (especially ones on Pinterest) but Iv thought as well as taking my own photos. Though anything in motion is hard to take picture of without it becoming blurry, probably because I don't have the right equipment for it.
and dang that's a really long time! I don't think I could do that, at least right now. With school and making sure I graduate, I think my mind set would have to change, as my Thought process is get it done quickly but efficiently.
Iv heard of Paintool sai, as Iv watched some really amazing speedpaints with them but not krita. Since it's free I'll definitly have to keep it in mind for when I get my own computer and can do that. I also have never heard of artrage, though it sounds cool. ^^

Pinterest is pretty good! Gives much more thematic hits and the site feels intuitive, also it's easy to store the stuff you like. Using your own photos is the best bet for sure, I myself don't travel around that much like I used to so I ask my friends to send me their nice pictures of different stuff.
It all boils down to time yes and art needs all our time. If you have school to do then you will have to treat art as a project on the side I think... but I'm not really experienced in this as I started drawing waay after finishing school, I was 22 so I had time. ^^
Or maybe try to get inspired while you're in school and distill that inspiration into art on the weekend when you have more time.

keloka In reply to MalthusWolf [2017-12-08 16:27:43 +0000 UTC]
Its very easy, that is for sure. With the phone and friends I'm the one that ends up going more places then them, so it's more of me to relies on my self. Though I have also asked them to take pictures if they are going somewhere!
and my gosh 22?! I feel almost jealous about starting at that point, then maybe I'd be a bit more better in school but I don't know. I often use my art to calm my high anxiety. And I get a lot of anxiety attacks during school. And that is a good idea, but it's a but hard for me. Like I can start something, even when it's out of school and on the weekend but then I can't find it in myself to end. Or I don't know how to make it so show what I believe it should look like.

Yeah the experience and the mileage that we have to do differs from person to person. For me, like for you also drawing was therapy for me when I stared, really calmed my nerves. Now it became part of my daily life and as a job.
School is hard it really takes a toll on your mental hygene. Just be sure to stick to people who don't weigh you down and you should be fine. I know it's easy to say this than actually doing it though. I sincerely wish you the best in that regard!
Also if the need strikes you then you just have to create. Don't let those creative bursts of energy lay around even if it's about school. I know because my SO was a really inspired painter in school and somehow she burned out because of the stress of school. The most important really is that you need to have fun with the creative process. If nothing is forced then you should be fine and keep on kindling that art flame!
