Description
Background illustration done for the upcoming visual novel, Otherworlde.This place is located in the same building but in another wing of the library. Students can relax, drink and eat here while attending their research / studies.

When I was painting the candy containers I was reminiscing of a cafe where my parents visited frequently and sometimes they brought me there too, this was when I was a little kid. The place had these huge glass globes full of colorful candies. Oh man it was a blissful thing to look at.

Everything actually has that feel like a medieval themed bookshop cafe. Nice and normal and with a touch of fun with the quills and inkwells. You know you're onto something a bit odd with the guy behind the counter but he seems nice enough XD

Telepathic, that could be fun. So you're at the bar getting drunk off your face thinking about how badly life sucks when suddenly you get a telepathic "I think you've had enough now" or a casual potential solution to whatever your problem is and you'd be wondering if you just had a drunken epiphany, and then be like "DAMMIT GEORGE" XD

For books at a distance like this - I found is that it's best to use a hard brush to paint in the silhouettes of the books. It's a really fast process, just paint in blue ones, red ones orange etc... (just make sure to shuffle the colors in a controlled but to some degree chaotic manner to ensure it looks good and natural too and not robotic) Then the detailing process is just about adding trims, random blobs and the most important - accurate lighting.
Before this is used photo textures, skimmed them down so they only gave color information to a primitive object, in this case the cuboids that are the books. That one works great too but I feel that with my current technique it requires a lot of afterwork to tie up loose pixels and such so it doesn't cause any discrepancies with the tones I may have established early on.
