so uh...i ended up getting attached to this bastard. listen ik hatchet is confirmed to be no longer have any relations with the other dragon brothers+zp as a whole and is implied to have a role in hazbin's canon. his personality might not even be the same anymore. yet...after consulting a friend over this, do i care? hmmnnn no. i said it before and i'll say it again: im going canon divergent with this and none of u can stop me. i'll probably tweak my hcs as more canon info is revealed

BACKGROUND;;

>hatchet--born dorothy hallux, later changed to calvin--was the youngest of four brothers: fitch, marx and malcolm. however, due to certain complications, he did not grow up with them nor is he aware of their existence, neither they with him. he was adopted by a timid young woman named louise hallux who could not concieve a child for her ever so impatient husband, dean. the man was barren as a hollow tree, but pride got in the way and blamed his wife for being the 'worthless' one. by bringing home this infant, dragon mom hoped he would be pleased...but no. dean was upset because the child wasn't a boy (hatchet is trans), what value does a frail little girl have?!? although he ultimately caved into his wife's pleas, dean made no secret of how little he cared for his son throughout the years, with remaining shards of the couple's relationship falling into pieces.

>little dorothy was a fairly happy child. while his mom spoiled him whenever she should, she was very protective to the point of neuroticism around his dad as to not trigger his wrath...who knows what that man is capable of and she'd rather never find out.

>he and his mother shared the closest bond ever. the playful little boy brought forth a happier, more carefree side louise herself never knew she had. she deeply valued her son's well-being and happiness, allowing him to engage in boyish activities and buying him little boys' attire behind her husband's back, whose conservative ass would never had approved of his 'daughter' acting so rowdy and uncouth. there had never been any discomfort in baby hatchet's mind, only that acting and even being called a boy felt so much more natural- as if it clicked better. if i'm being honest, neither of them really understood this trans biz (due to limited resources & the era they lived in), but as long as hatchet was happy, that was all what mattered to dragon mom.

his father in contrast...not as close. not at all, nope. hatchet could only remember exactly one or two nice things his dad did and...that was it. dragon dad would be more openly emotionally abusive when hatch was 15 and dragon mom passed away. hatchet has never hated or been scared of anyone more than his dad, to a point he's willing to pick up long, tedious after-school work solely to keep such unpleasant interactions to an absolute minimum

>was faaaaar from being book smart, possibly ridden with undiagnosed learning disorders. with all the lowest of the low grades he recieved in his academic work, hatchet only barely got by. one teacher after another gave up on him & other girls his age would pick on him for his lack of traditionally feminine traits: he was considered a lesser plain jane, he could set fire to boiling water, how could he ever hope to get married off? cue snobbish laughter. thanks to all that, the poor boy developed deep-rooted issues of not being good enough that would follow him to the afterlife.

>he ran away after his father died in a house fire. again, dean was one of the few people hatchet genuinely despised with everything he had...& that meant to the point it triggered homicidal thoughts. there was a time he'd almost set the house ablaze when dean had been in it, but common sense ultimately won over.

>somehow hatch had gotten what he daydreamed on the daily. he was on the path home one evening, only to find the place ablaze with his father still in it-- with his haunted bunny doll sitch & a suitcase filled with his belongings. he picked them up & left without a second thought.

OTHER FACTS;;

>hatchet was a lifelong SUCKER for the occult. having grown up in a religious neighborhood, he was accused of being a witch since forever, mostly for reasons including supposedly straining his parents' relationship and even their deaths upon his adoption, not to mention he was just so obsessed with the dark arts that people found it iffy. this obsession would be the precise reason of his death.

>he was one of the idiots who thought it'd be a smart idea to summon the mythical radio demon to the living world. alastor found the young man's undying dedication to be adorable, so he offered up a deal & hatch stupidly took it, binding him to the deer demon for the rest of eternity...it was a huge honor to him!!

>alastor would soon get sick of him & his incomptency, trying again & again to cut him off. hatchet, who returns al's loathing, continues to annoy the hell out of him out of sheer fucking spite.

>works part-time in hell's equivalent of hot topic. 90% of his wardrobe comes from the store-- to the point he himself looks like a reject model.

>he struggles with something of an inferiority complex-- people who continuously point out his inability to perform things correctly grace the top spots on his hate list.

>has undiagnosed ADHD & autism.

>sudden loud noises freak him out.
