what better way is there to start off a canon divergent verse than introducing a bunch of douchebaggy parents? mothella & henroin honest to god need dr phil and xanthos isnt sure why he bothers hanging around his melodramatic partners in crime anymore.

but they werent always this way! henroin, mothella & xanthos’ story began way back, in childhood to be precise. the trio may not have had the most peaceful of lives thanks to their families’ deep association to the underworld, but their friendship was the light of their lives no matter what hurdled their way. or so they thought. things change, relationships change, & sometimes closest of pals might not be so close anymore as things happen; things like dumping your best friend only to court your other best friend shortly after.

the gruff & notorious mobster henroin we all know today was once a carefree soul named vincent webster, nearly resembling angel dust’s playful & flirtatious nature, believe it or not. he used to be a huge ladies’ man and mans’ man (although the latter was kept more on the down low); his days of tossing handpicked flowers and cheesy cards and sweet talking his crushes were temporarily halted when he entered his first meaningful relationship with xanthos, formerly known as monty b. slithers in life, after realizing his feelings for his longtime bestie burned beyond the lines of platonic intimacy. they were dumb teenagers! they thought it was love that was going to last-- they had plans to run away and their best lady would be their closest gal pal mothella, or elaine antheraea, better known as simply "ella" & all that cheesy dream getaway trash!

—yet henry broke things off in the end once the spark all but diminished, & the dawning realization it was another fling of his that simply lasted a tad longer than the rest greatly soured the boys’ relationship, but with ella’s elusive voice of reason, they tried to remain on friendly terms.

that is, until henry decided to hook up with ella of all people not too long after dumping xanthos. the nerve of that guy—

it was the same cycle, with vin and ella. a whirlwind of blind romance that lasted from their late teens to early adulthood, ending in a marriage that was happy just for the first few months…and then, that flame, too, was lost. henry was getting bored, ella was already expecting & was damn unhappy about it; both were far too immature to lead a domestic life, even by criminal standards. as the remnants their young love was stomped into nothingness by the harsh weight of reality, xanthos couldnt help but laugh at how their marriage fell part only within a span of a few years, at the tension that continues to grow with each child’s birth (seriously, does henroin not know what condoms are?), at how the fact vin didnt have what it took to stay faithful made things worse.

>henroin is an extremely repressed bisexual. he’d rather not speak of his affairs with men, especially not with xanthos; it’s a secret he and his old “friends” will keep even after the grave. although…it’d be a complete lie to say a good-lookin’ fellow or three havent caught his eye every now & so.

>henry’s parents were extremely strict in his upbringing in their efforts to get him to toughen up and conform in order to take over the mafia business. it was the basis of why he changed, to chose to push back his attraction to men and just…”man up” (aka he internalised the abuse from his parents & now he’s repeating the cycle with his own kids— albeit he considers his child-rearing methods to be far more ‘humane’ by comparison). henry is just a bad dad & husband that cant comprehend basic human decency.

>mothella isn’t the best mom, with her patience that keeps thinning in her dealings with six whole children plus one unfaithful, loveless monster of a husband, but compared to henry, she was more present in her children’s lives and DID make some half-hearted effort to be nice— sometimes. only if they didn’t give her a headache. angel still remembers the time she bought him and blue a cute plushie to share for their birthday.

>xanthos is the only one with a life that’s anywhere close to being sane. he has his own partner and little boys, castello & ribbon, to pepper with love, as he watches the soap opera that is the webster family unfold before him. it was entertaining for a while, but hearing his “pals” talk shit and bicker day & night does gets tiring. seriously, why does he even hang out with them anymore.

>henry really doesnt care about xan and his family, just as long as they dont get in his way. xan is one of the webster’s main associates; both sides are willing to tolerate one another’s existence as long as their deals are mutually beneficent— henroin, as always, would prioritize himself though. in spite of their petty personal feuds, he, xan & ella still do have nights out at bars, partically for old time’s sake but mostly to keep rivaling businesses aware their partnership isn’t going anywhere.

>ella & xan see each other behind henry’s back. if her husband gets to roll in sheets with different people everyday, ella doesnt see why she cant either, & who better to mingle with than his ex!! xan was unwilling as to not dishonor his own family, but the bitter ex inside him does relish the idea of getting back at henroin…one night turned into several more spent at cheap motels, followed with xanthos questioning his life choices by each sunrise. should anyone question their closeness, sly ella would lock arms with him, with a sharp yet sweet reply: "what’s so wrong with a pair of ol’ pals hangin’ out? just ‘cuz vin & monty ain’t close no more doesnt mean anything changed between us, amiright darlin'~?" she also courts a few gents and ladies outside of xan, he just happens to be her Main Hoe(tm).

TL;DR- henroin is nothing more than a fuckboy, mothella hates everything and xanthos is so fucking tired of it all. theyre disasters
