Description
Done with my new favorite con drawing tool, a flat brush along with some brush pens and white out. But mostly flat brush. Love the broad strokes it can do, I can be more expressive with the line work. These were done inside my 2009 art book [link] . I actually found most of these online since I didnβt get a chance to take my own photoβs. So if you got one of these and can send me a photo, that would be greatly appreciated!Related content

Could you please draw every comic for DC? I've always loved your work and yet it just keeps getting better. Cannot wait for Flash!

the flat brush wash looks like markers..
so how do you do wash technique?... mix it in a container first or add water on ink?

Wow. I loooove them all, but the Wondy and black cat are my faves. The ink washes look so effective with your style.

These do look really cool Francis! I interrupted you doing one of these when I saw you at SDCC.
The first time I thought of using larger brushes was when I read an interview with Bill Sienkiewicz talking about how silly it was to fill large areas with a #3 brush.
I had been using larger flat brushes for years doing watercolors and didn't know why I hadn't done that with ink also.
I think I need to revisit their use.

Thanks Bill! In SD I was using a combination of flat brush with the brush pen. But the more confident I got with the flat brush the more fun it became "chiseling" out the shapes and using the negative space to create the "outlines". The brush has definitely proven it self to be quite versatile since it's corner is pretty sharp I can still do some of the "finer" details. And to think I only bought it so I can paint the sky's faster. heheh..now I love that brush!

When I used to do a lot of watercolor landscape paintings I used a lot of large brushes. The 1" flat brush got a ton done. From the big backgrounds to small tree branches with the chisel side.
I think that rubbed off on my black ink work in comics. I usually use a #4 brush and instead of using a smaller brush for smaller lines I often chisel the #4.
I think I need to use a bigger brush for much of my washwork now.

Love the Saturn Girl sketch, only because I'm biased! XD
Exactly what kind of flat brush do you use. Can you get it at your local art store and if so how much?

Their all great. I particularly like Lightning lad and Cable. I like Cable just because it's so different from your usual and Lightning lad is just badass.
