Here we go!

Azalea chatted as the two of them set off on their way towards the Castanet guilds, occasionally waving her arms out of excitement.

“We’re finally joining the guild! I almost can’t believe it, except I can, because we’re on our way there right now!”

Tetra yawned as she tried to blink the sleep out of her eyes. “I’m really happy for you. I just know you’ll be a great explorer.”

Azalea lowered her arms and looked over at Tetra. “Ah! Um, right, I’ll do my best!” she cheered, with just a tad less enthusiasm than before.

They continued to move forward, Azalea’s talking simmered down to humming as she admired the surroundings. Tetra tried to keep a straight face as she juggled her options internally.

“If I tell her, I’ll be locked in. There’s no way I’ll be able to back out. If I don’t tell her, I still have room to go back, and she’ll enter the explorers, alone. Is being alone that bad though? She’s always been good at making friends, so she wouldn’t be alone for long. But…”

She allowed herself a small sigh. This was too much thinking for 7 in the morning. Up ahead, a stern looking espeon and a mareanie waved in their direction.

“Hello there! Can we ask where you two are headed?”

Azalea waved back. “Hi! We’re looking for the guild!”

This seemed to catch both their attentions.

“Which one?” the espeon asked gruffly.

Azalea paused, not quite knowing how to respond. “The guild!” she repeated.

He wrinkled his nose at her naive response. “There are 3 guilds,” he said. “But before that, would either of you be-”

“W-wait!” the mareanie waved frantically. “You’re going to get them to join your guild aren’t you?”

“You’ve already heard what they’re here for. What’s the point of beating around the bush?” he turned to Azalea again. “I am Weston, leader of the Arcanists. Have you interest in magic or medicine, my guild is the one to be considered.”

“A-and I’m Ursula! I lead the Aristocrats, and we, um, focus on keeping order and peace, and manage trades and expeditions!”

Azalea cocked her head to the side. “What about the third one?”

As the three of them were talking, the bush beside the road had a paw stick out of it, waving to get Tetra’s attention. Tetra eyed it warily, making no move to get any closer. The bush gave an exasperated sigh and scooted closer.

“Psst. You look like the bright sort. Take my advice and don’t join any of these clowns.”

Still not trusting the stranger who decided it’d be smart to hide in a bush, she responded with, “Why not?”

“Think of it as a friendly piece of advice from one outcast to another,” she waved her paw casually. “These guilds are anything but good news. If you’re looking for a place to stay though, hit me up, ‘kay?”

Trusting her gut, she shook her head. “No thanks. I’m just here to see my friend off. She’s the one joining one of your guilds, I’m not…interested.”

“Tsk, tsk.” she sounded annoyed. “We’re not part of the guilds, we won’t ever be. And it’s a shame, really. You sound like you’d fit right in with us. Well if you ever change your mind…just ask for Carmenelle. They’ll know who to look for.”

At this moment, a hitmontop came running in their direction, startling the whole group.

“Stop right there, Weston! Ursula! Who’re these fine strangers?”

The espeon, apparently named Weston, exhaled deeply.“This is…Madeline, of the Explorers.”

Madeline pointed at herself proudly. “If you’ve got a knack for adventure, exploring and helping other pokemon, the Explorers are exactly what you’re looking for!”

“Yes! I want to join the Explorers!” Azalea fired back, matching her enthusiasm.

“That’s the spirit! Come with me, rookies! I’ll help you get registered and get all that stuff out of the way, and then…”

Tetra bounded after them, but after a thought decided to steal a glance backwards. The bush seemed to rattle indignantly while the espeon and mareanie looked on with slight disappointment. No hard feelings, hopefully.

At the registration, Azalea held up her team registration form to eye level, quivering in excitement.

“This is it!” she whispered. “This is really it!”

Tetra smiled beside her, twirling a pen aimlessly in her left paw. “It is.”

Azalea turned to her with a wistful smile. “The only thing that would make this better is if we could’ve done this together, Tetra.”

Oh darn it.

“Maybe...we can,” she started. “I’ve been thinking about it for the past few weeks, and I don’t feel a hundred percent certain about it, but if you haven’t changed your mind about forming a team together, I think-”

“YES! Tetra, Tetra, we’re going to be an exploration team together!” she waved her arms around, spinning in circles.

“I still have to fill in the form, Az,” she said, but she couldn’t stop the smile on her face from forming.

. . . And from that day on, they were known as the Explorers team, Team Springtide!

And that’s how this team was formed! Who knows where they’re headed, but there are bound to be adventures in store for both of them.
