Description
Acrylic and digital media.Done for my collage class.
We were to make a homage to a figure that was a major influence on us. Rather than doing a straight up portrait, I made is more of a symbolic one, with using elements from her paintings.
Frida Kahlo is boss, just to let you all know.

It's an awesome class, and the professor is amazing, but I don't know if they have it in Atlanta.
It started out all traditional but I messed it up so badly beyond recovery that I had to start over, and digital was faster.

I used to be a traditional purest, because of seeing all the digital art and how a lot of people don't know what they are doing in terms of digital painting, and originally it didn't fit with my style, but then I started doing digital collage and it just kind of grew from there because it fit my work perfectly.

yeah i hate how some ppl dont have talent whatsoever and can still do decent work with a PC. Now, not saying it doesnt take talent bc it does, just saying not everyone has talent. lol

Well, until properly trained, along with experimentation and practice it's when it starts to get good.
A lot of people are locked into what digital painting is supposed to look like, and the shape their style around that, to where they lose their own style.
I thought I was going to hate electronic illustration (which we all have to take) but it was one of the most useful class to me, even when using all traditional and using something to enhance it just right with a texture/color or even just cropping and expansion.

YEAH! Maybe it just kills talent! Thats it lol. I do see what you are talking about. Most ppl think that digital illustration HAS to be this infinitely detailed thing, and that it is so much easier bc all that you need is right there. Personally i find it far more difficult to do something on the PC rather than scan in a hand drawn or painted piece and tweak it a bit.

Yeah, I know a lot of illustrators that still use traditional line work and add things to it digitally, and I use traditional line work because most of the time digital line work looks terrible, and is never done properly. However, I have to say, it's really hard to get a job in illustration without knowing how to use illustrator, photoshop and indesign well. I find that when I do illustration I use digital media, because it has to be fast, efficient and of a certain quality/format. however for fine art I've been mainly doing traditional, because it's more about what my mind wants, rather than what my client wants.
I personally don't totally have the patience for digital painting unless it's flat colors on top of traditional or vectorized line work.

Thats true. I paint, draw, etc VERY VERY fast and cant slow myself down for the computer. I just don't like switching my mind to command keys from what i can do much easier, more accurately, and way faster with my hands and a pencil. However, If it is something simple and small, say a logo, i will use the computer. For clients i blend the two, just because I do believe that digital tends to look more "professional." But i love testing myself and probably will never convert totally to digital, mainly because I don't think it allows my talents to be at their best, and my clients get the best.
