*** ***Cyclops for my source of encouragement lately
The challenge was the optic blast, and I did so many versions until we were happy with this one. I did another version with more white but I don't think I'll submit it...unless you ALL ASK! Haha...I really like this...I did the bg good I reckon, and considering this is my first proper drawing of a guy with muscles and all....
YAY! Then again I was copying off a lot of references so it was easier....hehehe....What do ya think?!

Great work! I like the way you did the optic blast. I am new to digital art and I am also doing my own version of cyclops. I'm having trouble drawing the face looking upward. what advice can you give?

If it's the angle you're having trouble with, try taking a few photos of yourself or someone with a similar angle (a bright light source from the same angle makes life so much easier), and just check out where all the shadows lie, the proportion of your nose to your mouth, etc etc.
Otherwise doing a devART search for head references is always easy, here's a pretty basic one I found helpful [link]

Hey! yeah I was thinking about taking photos of myself to get the angle. The link does help out too, I'm not to good with shadows either. It's all practice. Thanks alot, you were very helpful.
